48 states in less than five days - why?

Three men say they drove to 48 states in less than five days.

Josh Keeler, Adam Gatherum and Joey Stocking rode 7,000 miles in a 2005 Toyota Scion. They say their longest stop was 15 minutes for gas and a bathroom break.

They spent more than $1,000 on gas.

What's the purpose of this? It couldn't be fun - stuck in a car for 5 days - and not really experiencing anything.

My business partner used to drive most of the length of California in 10.5 hours, stopping for gas and gas station food. I never understood it. Life is too short to kill pleasure so surely, but pleasures differ. I admit hers was in the 'getting there'. We're all different. I guess they wanted to do it to do it. Surely not to write a book about "blue highways".

It sounds exhausting...probably not real good for you either - sitting that long in the car without moving...ick

The Crew that visited 48 states in five days has achieved a fleeting fame--which they find very satisfactory.

It was just an attempt to beat the prior record of driving through 48 states in 5 days, 7+ hours...

I bet you didn't go all the way with her, George, no?

We drove from NY to CA in 5 days with a u-haul moving truck. Although
it was quite interesting, it's not something I care to repeat.

Yeah that too! Laughing

With the dollar being so low against the Euro, we won't be seeing that
anytime soon though.

just saw a flight advertised :
toronto - orlando return $35 , airport fees and service charges $212.35 Shocked (and air canada is advertising an additional $120 fuel surcharge for north-american flights !!!) .
we got a better bargain yesterday : took a daytrip to watertown , ny , yeaterday . gas is ony about $1 a liter stateside ; it's about $1.20 in canada . so we filled up before returning and had the trip pretty well for free . additionally picked up some bargains at ALDI : german coffee at $2.99 for 500 grams (a REAL pound  ) .
a good time was had by all .
