My wife found the first one this year, then I found four more, all half frees. Heading up north this weekend to search for the elusive blacks and yellow/whites.
That's not all though. We'll be turkey hunting and doing a little trout fishing too. May is triple whammy month for Michigan outdoorsfolks.
When I saw this, I thought "moral" hunters.
There is no morality on a cjhsa thread.
Hence the "

".
Gus, we've seen so little of each other lately....how have you been?
I miss the swamp.
Can I bring the little Bella out to explore?
Certainly. I'll cage the squid.

I knew a fungus thread would bring Gus running.
I guess not. Just haters, not hunters.
We collect them here. Our morels don't resist and fight against it.
But what would you expect ... Europe, it is!
Walt, I stop by this place quite often for morel soup and other european inspired faire. Hermann is an outgoing chef and showman.

Heading up to my morel "honey hole" tonight. Should be picking tomorrow. I'll try to post pics later.
My favorite morel recipe is after soaking them in salt water, I dip them in an egg batter, roll them in bread crumbs and then fry them up in a pan with butter. Anyone else want to share their favorite recipes?
I'm heading back to the Caribbean on Monday, hopefully I'll be back before the frost so I can enjoy them too.

That's exactly how I do them. I use crushed Club crackers for the crumbs.
cjhsa,
I bet that using club crackers gives them an even better buttery flavor.
Are you looking for any wild asparagus too?
I don't think there's a way to fix morels that doesn't turn out good. I generallly fry them without even breading. The one and only good thing about the forest fires out here is the morel hunting the following summer. The only trouble is that the commercial pickers try their best to get every one of the little buggers before the locals can get to them.
Cowdoc,
Just curious where you live. When I go hunting, usually knowone notices.
Our morel season is now over. We went out two weeks ago and my buddy and I got about 2.5 pounds . Mrs F uses crackercrumbs for the frying and she makes this to accompany chicken with tarragon. A nice meal.
PS , always leave at least one morel alone in the cluster , that ensures a good next year. We always keep a mental map of where we hunted . Ive noticed that the mushrooms sort of "migrate" with the prevailing wind.
You've got to be kidding, Morell season is just beginning. Maybe your wife needs an adjustnentm
