Ahnold doesn't want to join the circus -- he wants to remain outside the tent where he can direct people to the sideshow. There he will show you all sorts of freaky things, like old movie memorabilia left over from his bankrupt Planet Hollywood. He wants to show he can do the same thing to California in half the time.

He's referring to the incident where someone threw a raw egg at Arnold during a campaign stump.

It must of been a rather sobering and frightful experience for Maria and the rest of the Kennedy clan. The egg was a joke but the vulnerbility of politicians on the campaign trail must of brought back some very painful memories for the family.
