squinney--

Why do you want boomer to not get smarter?

Is it because you hadn't lent a hand. That's your first appearence on this thread and I have made it zing a bit and zingy threads are better for A2K than non-zingy ones which this would be if it was up to you.

Your untimely, bad-mannered and stupid interjection is trolling.

Jesus did invent E=MC squared but it would obviously be a waste of time explaining it to someone who goes around telling people to shut up using blasphemy for emphasis. People like that never get smarter.

What do "Jesus of NAzareth"(anglicized name), Simon bar Kokhba,Muhammed,Moses of Crete,Ishak ben Yakub Obadia, Serene,Simon MAgus,Montanus,Adelbert ,Tancheln , SIster ANn Lee, Joseph SMith, and John Thom all have in common?

They are all supposed "Messiahs" believed in by small groups (or large) ,each had had a movement of believers about them (and often following their earthly mission) and all with some historico/scriptural evidence.

I understand that,Theres only about 13 Shakers left, even though theyve had a few new ones whove "taken the pledge" and there are no Thomians left in ENgland. Although I do believe that there are a few followers of the Mohammed guy and also the Joseph SMith fellow.

Any sect which has sexual abstinence as a core belief is not likely to prosper . .

Were those others executed fm?

That's the key question. And Pilate, being a Roman, didn't understand why Jesus should be.

You need to know your Greek history better.

You are comparing the real thing with imitators.

Although the Catholic priesthood always seems to do OK.

fishin - Thanks for the coffee.

Actually, NPR was reporting (yesterday I think it was) that entry into the priesthood is down some 70% since the 60's.

The laity are screwin' like rabbits, so there's no lack of canon fodder (that's a pun, for those whose spelling isn't up to snuff). The Shakers practiced sexual abstinence throughout the congregation--and the congregations tended to shrink rather rapidly.

Being executed seems like a peculiar requirement for messiahship.

It certainly helps. Socrates for example. Shakespeare bolted. They grabbed de Sade and he was a bit lucky to escape the chop.

It's what you do that the authorities don't like not so much their reaction.

Rushdie is still under protection at great expense. There's Trotsky, Ghandi, Martin Luther King. Luther himself had to stay in certain areas and La Mettrie was poisoned in exile. Bruno. Rabelais and Galileo had friends in high places. Ovid was exiled.

They say Wilhelm Reich was murdered in prison. Not that I know mind you.

Where was Jesus between, say, 18 and 30?

Could you offer a definition of sexual abstinence?

And an explanation to follow how it is practiced? And particularly "throughout the congregation".

Thank you.
