The Decline of Oprah Winfrey

Reply Thu 27 Mar, 2008 09:03 pm
I watched some of her shows and they were fabulous. A poll of Talk Show Hosts shows that she is no longer No. 1. I guess she shattered the dream of many of the white women and the elderly by helping Obama in the Iowa Primary in which he won and propelled him into the front runner position thus endangering Hillary Clinton. Oprah may have lost those Clinton supporters among her viewers as they feel she has shattered their dream of an Hillary Clinton Presidency which they had looked forward to so much for so long.

I feel that IF she has lost her #1 status...well..it's inevitable after 22 seasons. I don't know for a fact that it has been overtaken. Overtaken by which show? She has a contract to go 'til 2011.

I see by some sources that it's the highest-rated talk show in American television history. Many critics consider it the best talk show in history of the medium.

TV is still is fickle and volatile medium. It can swing back to #1 again. IMHO, I think lower ratings of her show have nothing to do with backing Obama over Hillary.

It's been proven time and time again that voters are not affected by celebrity endorsements when they go to the polls. It's pure fallacy.

Oprah's show hasn't had #1 ratings since Ellen's show became a hit. But Oprah is far from declining. She's had her talk show for more than 20 years, mostly at #1 ratings. She also produces the Dr. Phil Show and the Rachael Ray show, and just signed with Kirstie Alley to produce a show for her.

She is currently also producing both television and cinema films and now owns her own cable network, publishes two monthly magazines, she has her own radio show on XM, she has her Angel Network of charities, she established and built the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa and a lot more.

She is a woman with too much money and too much time on her hands.

I speak blasphemy to some, but I think her show sucks. Has for years.

Albeit, I only catch it once in a blue moon, but if they are any indication of the rest of them, she's going deeper into her own private world.

Couple of weeks ago I stay home due to an injury, and watched about 5 minutes of Valerie Burtonelli talking about how she lost weight.

I think the same thing.

She makes me imagine an unthinking majority of people who race to target for an 'activity' just to buy the latest thing she talked about on her show.

Talk about controlling the masses.. Rolling Eyes

Who Cares Dep't
We should ALL have her money, fame and notoriety. Hell, I'd even take on her problems, too. A billionaire doesn't sweat the same way we do - they have a peasant sweat for them! Rolling Eyes

And, if she ISN'T married, who CARES?! Obviously, SHE doesn't care or she'd BE married! Being married has never been the be-all and end-all, especially for someone in her tax bracket and with all those irons in the fire.

Ellen Show is number 1? Wow, I've seen that show...YIKES! Kind of light and fluffy like cotton candy. Is she going to cry again because of the doggies?

Her marriage only matters to the.. sad majority who CARE more about celebrity lives then others..
who think of those kinds of stories as true entertainment and dinner conversation.

Good evening, KMart shoppers!

Actually, I don't think ANYONE here that is posting cares. It's all just chatter! No more care about this than I care about Hillary and Obama's shenanigans.

I think she was hurt by getting too rich, the African school disaster, and the fact the people are weary of her world view of victimization. Her giving DR Phil a stage might be part of it too.

I am proud to say that I've never watched an Oprah Winfrey, Dr Phil, Ellen, or Rachel Ray from one end to the other--I recognize them mostly because of their advertising and in transit through the dial in search of true entertainment. I guess that is because I somewhat prejudiced against talk shows as I consider them the moral equivalent of daytime porn nor do I have no interest in reliving someone elses opinion as entertainment.

However, in response to Oprah, Jimmy Kimmle once said that the greatest threat to marital accord can be summed in two words and those two words are Oprah Winfrey.

The same can't be said about Jerry Springer, ar least that can be entertaining without preaching.

Most Influential Woman in the World
Say what we will about her here, she has been voted by more than one media source (CNN and Time) as "The Most Influential Woman in the World"!
