New environment. What to do? Too old? Shall I let them know that I am here? Saw the truck go down the street when lingthening was hitting? Felt that I should have been on it. Have been on it many times in the past. What should I be doing?
I don't know, Sumac. It's kind of a matter of your needs, their needs, and what you feel you owe, isn't it?
I took the course to be an engineer. That would be correct. But it was a bad course. I need more instruction, but could easily be a pumper operator. I am too old to go crawling into buildings, unless it is a real emergency,
It might be a good way to become part of the community...at least talking to them about your course...and perhaps offering backup.
I agree, and will do so. At my age, and level of physical skills, I should manage the water flow at the pumper. Knowledge of other areas can be used as an "as needed" basis.
Are you really too old? I wonder if you could not fit into a firehouse or an EMS facility. You need not go out on every call, but there might be a place for someone like you who has experience and is committed to this kind of helping response. Surely it is a matter of attitude and your past knowledge and forward looking commitment. I'll bet there is a place for you out there.
