With Obama's recent speech on race, I'd say racial identity and how it affects their politics has become even more prevalent amongst Dems, if that was possible.
(You'll notice from my other posts that the Dems and libs with their liberal identity politics really bug me.)
Here's why:
Women have said they will be voting for Hillary simply because she's a woman; blacks have said they will be voting for Obama simply because he's African-American...
Back in 1984, there was a historic governor's race in my state. The LA mayor, Tom Bradley, who was black, was leading in the polls and although a Dem, as an ex LAPD Lt., he was also considered a law and order candidate who was pro-business.
George Dukemjian, who is white, was the attorney general. Big law and order guy, but he didn't have the SoCal support Bradley had.
Dukemjian, to the surprise of many, was elected.
Later, talking to (ex) friends, I find that some voted for Dukemjian simply because he was white. I angrily denounced them. Other friends, libs that they were, praised me for being ?'enlightened' for recognizing bigots for what they were.
(I don't think libs had invented the word ?'progressive' yetÂ…)
Now, I understand what is occuring with Clinton (H) and Obama isn't simply ?'reverse racism' or sexism; but lacking other issues (which many of these voters can't name), it is gender and racial politics at its most base. And it is, after all, a vote for prez of the US.
Bush (W) attained the office, many say, because he had the name recognition from his father.
Just as many others say Hillary is only in contention because she rode her husband's coattails to a senate seat.
Obama, as an outsider to DC politics, is actually an attractive candidate. But I can't help but think the way the Dems are fixated on race will come back to bite themÂ…
Don't be carried away with American media.
Read the news and views that emanate from other continents..
Both parties have been enmeshed with racial politics for some time now. Obama thinks that people are tired of it, that he can appeal to their aspirations to move beyond it, and thus whites will vote for him. It remands to be seen, it may be that the Amercian people are not ready to move beyond race. Billery is making the claim that Obama is not electable because America is not able to embrace a black man for President, thus the party should choose her. The problem with her argument is that histrically Americans are have often been willing to accept a black man before they are willing to accept a white woman. Blacks got the vote first, and were allowed into the military first.
