I wish to buy a poster or inexpensive copy of a particular painting. I don't have actual knowledge whether any inexpensive copies and/or posters were ever produced.

How can I find out and purchase it if available?

Why don't you just Google the artist and painting and add the words " poster sale" to it ?

Thats what I do. I seem to work pretty good.
