Is McCain too old to beat Obama or Clinton?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00307/mccain-385_307294a.jpg

John McCain looks older than his 71 years and every bit as tired as he should be, having just dragged his campaign from the grave to achieve an improbable victory over half a dozen younger rivals for the Republican nomination.

In his London hotel room, without the thick TV make-up that often masks the cancer scars on his face, he seems pale - utterly exhausted - almost frail. He must now prepare for a November general election against either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, bidding to make history as a black or female president.

Mr McCain's own place in the record books, should he prevail, will be as the oldest president to begin a first term - a prospect which apparently alarms more voters than the race or gender of his prospective Democratic opponents...

No.

I don't want McCain in the white house myself, but I don't think age is necessarily an impediment. A sharp older candidate will seek a good team and will have some wisdom in commanding the team.

I resent the idea that I should think his mind is troubled because he doesn't look 43.

Please give sentient people the benefit of their expertise.

This thread sounds posted by an inexperienced person. Are you in your early twenties, zippo?

Odd. Zippo seems seems to feel threatened by the guy, whatever the age.

I'll admit I almost entirely ignore zippo's threads, which leaves me a little ignorant for doing any kind of thorough argument to him.. I think I might have agreed with some sentences in one or two of his posts early on, but the main of the threads, I see as kind of battery.

Well, that's me.

I think McCain missed the boat too, but not because of age, and this thread is about his AGE.

Too old? He's the man! He limps because he broke a leg on the way out of the cockpit that no one bothered to reset in the subsequent 6 years.

What's the wrong with an experienced candidate? My impression is that an old candidate might fail at a crucial time or fail to inspire confidence. So what's the problem? I'd rather McCain on his deathbed or whoever his pro-tempore might be at a crucial time than Barack or Hillary. And as for confidence, like I said, he's the man! He's got confidence inspiring ability no junior senator could dream of - people have followed him onto battle!

It is not the age that
confronts the voters
but
the political views.

Old is not gold anymore
nor young is the virtue of our social life.
His political views are outmoded
and I hope the American voters
use their vetos against him
