We (the rest of the world) have known for ages that like the Lilliputians, we would have to somehow contrive to contain and tie down the American Gulliver, and it looks like it's beginning to happen, helped by the giant's own arrogant hubristic pride. W00T!

There are still millions of Americans who deny this is happening. To them it is just another episode of Survivor.

Incompetence is the result of a lack of caring about competence, which has been the norm for over a generation. America has gotten fat, sloppy, intellectually dull, spiritually devoid, and morally bankrupt. Incompetence at critical skills is but one small manifestation of the illness that is in the process of bringing America to its knees.

Many of us have for decades been sounding the alarm, saying that America needed a check-up and a program to regain health, but we were ignored and called names (stupid, hypocondrac, dinosaurs who don't get the "new economy" and so on). It is going to take awhile before Americans wake up and smell the coffee, but we are getting there.
