I arrivd at DFW yesterday, 80 degrees! But a cold front is moving in and there might be a little snow even up towards the Red River.
Saw quite a few Huckabee supporters waving signs along the freeway. Local pundits seem to think that Obama will carry the Dems. I talked to the cashier at Tom Thumb, an older white women, she is going to vote for Hillary if "she has time to vote!" She likes Obama but thinks that Hillary will beat MCCain easier and then "we will be back to the same crap ole ****!" (Bush, I guess)
I don't hear and feel the political buzz like I do in San Francisco on a normal day...this lack of overall excitement among the middle-aged suburbanites here in Plano may be a good sign for Obama. Hillary voters might just decide they have better things to do. It will be interesting to see how McCain does, there seems to be zero excitememtn for him.
I will be here til Friday although I might take a side trip to Austin Thursday.
Interesting, thanks. (I always like the local reports -- hey A2K Texans, what's your sense of things?)
I heard a very effective radio ad yesterday. Upon first hearing, I hear a guy who sounds like a typical good ole Texas boy Conservative Republican identifying himself as a general. He started talking about the Irag War and, at first, I thought it was a McCain ad. But then he went to denounce the Irag War strategy and explained that Obama was the only candidate who was right about the war. The speaker turned out to be Gen Tony McPeak.
I think this ad will really resonate with white blue collar men in Texas, though most of these are Republicans, of course. Stiill this ad will help Obama immensely IMO. For Hillary, all I hear or see is the stupid "red phone ad" which has backfired and an endorsement from the actor who plays Ugly Betty!
Really bad weather today in North Texas, a cold front is bring tornado warnings and heavy rains but It is supposed to be fairly decent Tuesday.
My gut feeling is that Obama will carry Texas rather easily 5-10% or maybe even more. I also think Huckabee will surprise on the Republican side doing much better than expected but still a distant second.
After watching CNN push Hillary I don't know what to think. Maybe I will see if they will let me vote here in Dallas.
Anyway, I gotta go and scrape my windshield, something I haven't done in thirty years!
