EASTERN LAKE ONTARIO
-----------------------------
by march 1 we are looking forward for some signs of spring .
after some brutishly cold nights of BELOW minus 20 C (about minus 5 F) ,
the temperature rose to just below freezing overnight .
woke up to brilliant sunshine ... and about 20 cm (about 8 inches) of fresh snow on the ground . it was quite fluffy and i cleared the driveway in about 15 minutes of easy "snowpushing" .
took a drive down to lake ontario - about 10 minutes to the west-end of the city and it was a beautiful sight !

here we are on lake ontario - near the western edge of the city . the lake is frozen over from the shoreline to wolfe island - about three miles offshore .
(sorry for the phone wire)

looking to the west and the LA MOINE (named after the early french settlers) POINT conservation area .
i imagine the lake will be frozen over for another two to three weeks .
the canadian coast guard icebreaker usually comes up from prescott (near the isenhower-locks on the st. lawrence seway) during the middle of march to start the icebreaking job - it's always a time to rejoice  .
