....Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Room, rabbit, what's the difference?

I enjoyed your poem, Lola.

Thanks Cinnesthesia.........it's the first poem I've ever written.

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead;
And the white knight is talking backwards;
And the red queen's off with her head;
Remember what the dormouse said,
Feed your head, feed your head

Your first poem, really? Good work, good atmospheric invocation.

Wassau, could I have a glass of red wine? And something from the secret stash...anything will do. Is it an insult to tip the owner?

SOLSTICE POEM (by Judith Robbins)

I hold vigil for the candle's light
flickering blue in its last drama.

My eye darts between book and flame
small as it is, floating on wax

not wanting to miss the moment
when fire goes out.

I am careful of breathing these
words too close
lest glowing orange hung with blue

blow out. Growing impatient
I tend the stove where moments before

I refused to leave, fearing dissolution
while I was away. Returning I find

the end of wick stalwartly clinging
to candlestick. What's taking so long?

I demand of the air,
like a mother in labor

like my own ancestors huddled
in gloom
around the flickering light of
mid-December.

I want to ride the tiger
I want to ride the tiger
It will be black and white in the dead of night
Eyes flashing in the clear moonlight
I want to ride the tiger.

It's like a tear in the hands of a western man
Tell you about salt, carbon and water
But a tear to a chinese man
He'll tell you about sadness and sorrow or the love of a man and
A woman.

I want to ride the tiger
I want to sail through the risin' sun for you and you
We got something to learn from the other side
Something to give, we got nothing to hide
I want to ride the tiger.

Black wants out of the streets
Yellow wants the country
Red wants the country back
And white wants out of this world
Sing - sing to the sky
I want to ride the tiger
I want to ride the tiger.

Look to the summer of seventy-five
All the world is gonna come alive
Do you want to ride the tiger?

It's like a tear in the hands of a western man
Tell you about salt, carbon and water
But a tear to an oriental man
He'll tell you about sadness and sorrow or the love of a man and
A woman.

Lola - what decorations have we got in the Cafe? Any plans for a New Year's party? Will be reading you though may not be posting from overseas.

Es war ein Trojanisches Pferd.

But I'm not Trojan. So no cigar.

I prefer wise men with only themselves to offer. I have one of those.......and he's great.

The USMC thread being now locked - we did demolish the place! - may I quote G OB here from earlier on this thread:

_____________________________________________________________
"A surge of sincerity overtakes me. OK we really haven't fought yet. Hell, I have no idea how the struggle would play out. Shall it be in the air? Dueling Dirigibles? Banging balloons? What does she mean by it all?

Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds.."
_____________________________________________________________

Make a habit of sincerity, George OB - and since the audits for bills of systems designs of a quarter-century ago (when the Carl Vinson was commissioned) can't be secret, look up the computer coders (MIT and Carnegie Mellon) and hardware manufacturer (Three Rivers Computer in Pittsburgh).

Thanks to Timber, our host, and everyone else who contributed.

Are you now turning the subject to all the early IT systems installed by Carnegie Mellon at Dick Martin's request? They were brilliant in conception - well ahead of both their time and the physical capabilities of the systems actually install4ed. They didn;t work as promised and no reasonable effort could make them do so. I had them all ripped out after my first year in command - including the consoles on the bridge that surrounfded the captain's station. (They also had the more serious undesirable effect of making the captain a link in a hundred chains & tied to his consoles - instead of doing his real job.)

I'll just wait here until someone comes along to distract me from my champagne. I brought my wireless machine--- I'll do some Christmas shopping while I wait...

I've been Christmas shopping this evening. Went to see the big Christmas tree and shopped at Saks.......fun and I got some good stuff too.

After this glass of champagne I'm sharing with you.....I'm off to bed. My feet hurt.

I was in town and saw the tree last night...and the incredible light show of the show flakes on the Sax building. That was spectacular.

The Big Apple at its finest.

(Great flea market type of thing set up in Bryant Park...if you get a chance. Looks like good buys...and tons of interesting stuff.)

But, Prince...you meet the nicest people in shops.

Unless of course, you are grabbing at something someone else wants!
