I didn't read anything about the willow cover and firepit..I'd love to hear about it though. I think it's important to get away from the traditional academic programs at time, that's how to meet the needs of all learners. The school I teach in has about 150 kids, still small enough to be creative.

I've gotta run to town to do some errands, I'll check back later ....

Have a great day Very Happy

Hey Stormy

a couple weeks ago...

My lovely boss, Ali, turned up yesterday and bought me the biggest bouquet of flowers from the school and the children. She is such a star and it was fab to see her. She's one of those people who is always genuinely smiling and just warms you inside. We make a great team and have got such huge plans for the school. We want to take an afternoon each week, get the kidlets to build a "cover" from willow, and make a firepit (our school is in the middle of nowhere so we have a lot of space for them to do this). Then once a week each class (our kidlets are age 4-11 - only 46 of them in our lovely school) will go into the cover, light a fire and we will show them a different form of education.

Communication with their peers but with the basics of nature surrounding them. Singing and just talking - just for a little time each week, but out of the confines of the school building. English, Science and Maths - heck - that's classroom stuff - we just want to give them a little more "natural" education. We also want to take them and do forestry skills - we all live in the country but kids these days know so little about taking care of themselves outside - so we plan to try and give them, and their parents, a back to basics. Should be so much fun and we think the children will benefit enormously. Children love this sort of stuff - so who knows a?

So basically, mud, "bogs", fires, trees, bugs and stuff - cooooooool)! Making, doing, laughing! Even little things like making a "dream-catcher" from twigs, raffia, leaves and feathers outside in the "cover" will open up their imagination and get them to see what surrounds them - if you get what I mean.

Also, the campfire thing is a big thing for us - fire has so much "life" and to watch people as they sit around a camp fire and see their faces - well, you can see a lot in people as they lose their thoughts watching a log-fire burning. It can be very soothing for some. Kids will be different to adults in that respect - their faces are of wonderment. That's a lovely thing to see in a child's face.

ooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkay - sorry to crew - the rambling English rose went on a bit there.....

and

stop! Smile

Hello Izzie. I almost forgot to say good morning. Good morning.
Every year I put our Christmas tree out in the back, when the holiday is over. The birds, rabbits, and their pals all use it for various reasons. Springtime, I snip clippings here and there for the acid content. The bark makes good mulch too. About mid summer, the tree is as dry as it can be.
If you've never seen an old, dry Christmas tree being dropped into a bombfire, then, you must put that on your list of things to do.

Serious warning: stand back, and stay clear.

Have yourself a nice day.

For those who are not able to see through their snow yet, for those who have oiled and placed their shovels in the garage, for those who have too much heat and can't water their plants, those who haven't got flowers close by (and also because I just love pics and paperwork be damned!) - here's a little taster of spring "springing" forward for our US crew (I believe) and summer on it's way. Bird, Flowers and bugs! (from last year!)

The Black Pearl is easily recognised by her distinctive black hull and sails. This turns out to be an advantage in more than one way. Not only do the black sails act as a sort of intimidation tactic, but the Pearl's crew can put out the deck lamps for added stealth at night. The ship was originally named Wicked Wench.

She is noted in At World's End as being: The only ship as wot (which) can outrun the Flying Dutchman. - You are safe from Dutchy!

Lace is always good for a Wicked Wench. Hope it's nicely fitted. So, official naming of Black Tulip onboard the ship deserves a toast -

"Wicked Wench" - "Cheers" - I'll have a G&T here in a minute - (heck - that'll be different for me and will raise my glass to you) Smile

Good morning one and all, the 'Flying Dutchman' has arrived, just in time to raise my glass and say cheers to the crew. Impressed by our newest member, looks like, try has charmed her already. Nice to see you again "Black Tulip", the Captain calls you a wicked wench, I would say a lady of distinction would be a better descrition.
