Greetings from behind the green door…

Still saying a prayer for those indisposed by ill health and for those unsung carers upon whom we all ultimately depend.

It may be true that I once toured as an evangelist and gave lectures on Phrenology.

As you may know, Phrenologists believed that the human mind has a set of different mental faculties, with each particular faculty represented in a different area of the brain. For example, the faculty of "philoprogenitiveness", from the Greek for "love of offspring", was located centrally at the back of the head.

However that defence did not help William Henry Bury (25 May 1859 – 24 April 1889) who was suspected of being the notorious serial killer "Jack the Ripper". He was hanged for the murder of his wife Ellen in 1889, and was the last person executed in Dundee, Scotland.

So please don’t confuse him with Oor Wullie; he is so totally not related and from a different time…

Which is the reason for my visit: TIME!

I keep missing appointments, like turning up to the bank and finding it closed. So what you may ask is causing this ripple in the continuum?

Well, after extensive research down at Joe’s Bar I can say with little slurring, that it is the fault of the French!

I know that may shock, what with then being America’s oldest ally an all, but the truth is they didn’t like the fact that time started from Greenwich (GMT).

Now as we all know Greenwich is a neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan in New York City, in the U.S. state of New York; and I was happy with that until they changed to ‘Coordinated Universal Time’

Like, what the hell is that all about!

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the basis for civil time in many places worldwide. Many devices for measuring and showing time use this 24-hour time scale, which is determined using highly precise atomic clocks. Time zones around the world are expressed as positive or negative offsets from UTC.

Now the sharpest crayons in the box would have noticed that Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) don’t = (CUT).

Which begs the question, why is UTC the preferred abbreviation?

Now get this; an international advisory group of technical experts in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) devised the Coordinated Universal Time system and felt it was best to designate a single abbreviation for use in all languages to minimize confusion.

Since unanimous agreement could not be achieved on using either the English word acronym “CUT” (taking the first letters of the words “Coordinated Universal Time”) or the French acronym “TUC” (abbreviated from “Temps Universel Coordonné”), the abbreviation UTC was chosen as a compromise.

They say the abbreviation “UTC” does not favor any particular language and can be used in all languages….

Have they never heard of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) ! ! !

So there you have it folks; Iffin’ y’all want to find out what do Greco-Roman traditions, Christianity and the Constitution all have in common, you are more than welcome to attend the Constitution Day Lecture, Sept 17.

All y’all have a good time now. If you want to get there you will have to train.

Hugs and whatnot x

BTW. After the latest court ruling; all items caught in your zipper will no longer be handled by me but dealt with by the A2K nurse. Thank you for your patients.

Back to three animals - I love that kitty though. LOVE HIM. Going down to see Dad as much as possible. Getting through the fall with teacher's conferences and parent's night and all...well...I don't know how I do it. Wink

@mismi,
Hiya mismi. You're like a dynamo going non-stop, yes how do you keep it up? Smile
I'm slowly heading in the right direction, can walk through the house without my walking frame but still need it outside. Had visit from my son over the weekend which was great, promised me heaps of Prawns and some Lobsters for Christmas. Glad he is in the fishing industry, just couldn't afford such seafood delicacies which are extremely expensive here. Where is our Captain, haven't seen or heard from here for a while.

Waves from downunder.

ESP? I mentioned this morning haven't seen or heard from the Captain for a while, low and behold who should phone me tonight? You guessed it, Izzie girl, we had a lovely chat and I'm pleased to say she sounded very happy, no doubt due to her son's 21st birthday celebrations. Thanks for calling (((Izzie))).

Hi friends,

Just coming on to let you know that my Biscuit passed away today. She was a young 7 years old. She got misdiagnosed last Saturday be our vet and by the time we realized they missed something she was so weak from the infection that they said she only had a 30 percent change of living and even then she would probably get an infection and die from that.

Believe it or not on Saturday of last week - after an xray - they told us she was constipated and they gave her an enema. By Tuesday She was not better and I called them. I told them she was still bloated and seemed to be more lethargic. I was feeding her broth and try to get her to eat anything and she would not eat. They said as soon as she evacuated her bowels she would feel better and to give her pumpkin. We tried. No go. So we took her to another vet. He immediately saw from the xray that out previous vet had taken that she had an infection.

We never had her spayed. Yes - now I know it was a mistake - but whether we had our heads in the sand (which is highly likely - my world can get so very tiny sometimes) and certainly out of pure ignorance though she was fine since we knew where she was at all times. Which was either under my feet or in her six foot high paddock in the back. Well...dogs have a tendency toward that kind of thing. Heartbroken to say that I wish I had known there was more to that than just having babies.

I have been grieving all afternoon. We took her to the vet - the boys - the professor and myself and loved her out of this world. I am so much sadder than I thought I would be even. I feel broken.

Anyway - hugs to you all. I know you know how hard it is. But the what ifs and the I wish I had justs are killing me.

@mismi,
oh MissyGirl, I'm so sad to hear about your Biscuit. You sure loved her.

I'm glad you were with her and helped her pass on.

Hugs to you Missy.

I will give extra snuggles (as they permit it) to our furry pack members and tell them that Missy loved her Biscuit and will miss her.

The Boy will be so sorry to hear about this. He still grieves for his Cleo.

@mismi,
Oh mismi

I am so sorry to hear this of your baby.

We, D and I, know too well of mis-diagnosises as it happened to our Boy 4 weeks ago. You did everything, including taking her to a new vet, everything.. That's all you could do, she would know that.

If it is any concelation we also took him to another vet who found it was a cancerous spleen just burst and put him immediately into operation. We questioned why 2 weeks before the night vets, made our dog spew after viewing an exray and said he ate too much, that was all.... We were angry when we realised that wasn't the case at all ... When we spoke to our vet, he advised us that they had just come from Medical conferences regarding ex-reays, where they realised that , not all ex-rays show the real problems and sometimes the pets show something different, it's not until a second extra on most accounts and / or ultra sounds that the real problem can be totally detected. Time.

Remember you did everything you could right to the end...

HUGE HUGS and love...
Izzie

@mismi,
Hi mismi,

So sorry to read of your loss. No point in you agonising over the "ifs" and "I wish's" - these things, tragically, happen to us all. Just try and recall how much love Biscuit received in her life, and how much she gave in return. She wouldn't want you to be broken-hearted or grief-stricken over her death - just try and rejoice in her memory, and eventually the grief will pass, and happy memories remain.
