More modern classical. Minimalist piano, though.

Here is something everybody can love: Rachmaninov's 1st piano sonata, 2nd movement. Start it at 4:25 to skip the interview. The music is easily accessible, you can just let it flow over you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=camkvUPzwnQ

For all you Mahlerites out there, here is another 8th performed by the Nagoya Mahler Festival Orchestra and a massive chorus. This lively performance is a great achievement and one of my favorite renditions.

Alright, so you love Vivaldi and hate the accordion, try this on for size: Vivaldi's Winter from the Four Seasons played on the accordion. Incredible!

@JPB,
For all you Prokofiev lovers out there here is the 7th piano sonata performed by Khatia .... This is a wild and woolly performance especially the last movement in blazing speed. She's not without her critics who lambast her for her fast tempo and hitting of wrong notes, but I like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqgkmbRm1rY

Also check this out: Prokofiev 8th piano concerto performed by Giltburg. He has a unique technique caressing the keys more than hitting them. The first movement is great, the other two so so and traditional.

Man starts playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy on a double bass in a city plaza, and other instrumentalists join in one by one. Stirring!

@ossobucotemp,
I know; it's really stirring...

Funny thing — someone posted this on a different forum and it got voted down. "Obviously staged!" "Totally phony!" "It's just a commercial!"

@hightor,
A "flash mob" is a group of people who seemingly appear spontaneously in public to perform a dance or choreographed activity.

A "smart mob" is a group of professionals that seemingly appear spontaneously in public and perform. This would have been a "smart mob". That doesn't lessen the effect it that had on the observers. They were moved, and so was I.

@coluber2001,
These were professional musicians probably hired by their Orchestra to advertise it, but so what, it's not like they were selling detergent.

@coluber2001,
Don't misunderstand me — I really liked it. I was just surprised that people would be dumb enough to imagine they were seeing some sort of "happening" and then get all pissed that it was actually a planned performance. As if professional musicians would be walking around with their uncased instruments.
