Holy sh!t, Aldistar! I'll never use an aluminum pie pan without a tray under it again!

Bohne, thanks for the recipe. It sounds really good. When I figure out the conversions, I'll try it.

Eeek. About the only thing worse than hot custard is hot grease, or roux, "cajun napalm".

Jespah, yes, I do salvage the burnt pans, at least my Le Cruset, and learned how back at that thread. The baking soda thing works for me...

I'm home today anticipating a blizzard, so I decided to clean the oven. The house will fill with smoke again. Oh well. After it's clean I'm making chocolate chip cookies.

Did you write the company or anything? Yikes!

Maybe those should be put on trays? Wonder if the label says so. (I use glass pie dishes...).

No I never wrote anyone, honestly it didn't occur to me. I blame myself, I should have put one of my hands under the pan to reinforce it but I was just moving it about a foot or so and I thought it would be OK. I did have it on a tray in the oven to catch spills, but there were two other pies in there as well and I couldn't safely lift all 3 at once.

I have never used one of those aluminum pans again though. Straight Pyrex pie dishes from now on.

Thank you, I have been creeping about a little, still trying to settle in Dallas so it isn't every day I can get to my computer.

By the way I do still love pumpkin pie, just not those damn pans.

I hope everyone does have a fire extinguisher in their kitchen. Also, check it, twice a year. I went to use my four year old extinguisher, and it failed.
