Kylie awoke early one morning and opened the door to our master bedroom
where Bear and I were catching an early morning romp.

"I thought I saw somenody's bottom going up and down," she said
wide eyed with her thumb in her mouth and blankie clutched.

"Oh, we were just playing. Good morning, hon."

Not nearly as traumatic as when we saw a turtle in the road,
turned around to move him only to see him splattered by a school bus.

The odd glimpse of a moving bum between loving parents
is very different from little kids seeing porn.

To that statement,
I must take exception.
Even as an old man,
the thought of seeing my own parents thusly involved
offends my sensibilities beyond the power of words to express.
I am very glad that it was never my misfortune to witness that.

I believe that most people in America agree with that.

If it were strangers, or the neighbors, that wud be different.
In my opinion, it 'd be better for little kids to see porn 1000 times,
rather than watching THEIR OWN PARENTS doing it; that 'd be sick n gross.
( altho accidents DO happen )

I remember once, at a family gathering,
my father being tasteless enuf to describe
some problems he had on his wedding night.

This statement was in my presence.
I was offended, tho I said nothing.

They shouldn't be seeing The Terminator, either.

Too scary.

Little kids aren't developmentally ready to deal with mindless violence or sex,
and both can cause them to be very distressed and traumatised...
including nightmares, extreme anxiety, flashbacks, intense shame, fear
about the meaning of what they have seen in relation to the adults in their life
upon whom they are dependent, and about adult life in general,
and acting out of what they have seen.

THANK U.
This is the specificity that I was asking about.
This, I understand.

What appears to be being proposed by Omsig
is that porn will have no negative effect on kids.

U have DISTORTED what I posted.
Please read it again.

I did NOT assert anything to be true.
I do not have sufficient information to form a judgment on this point.
I have no information regarding this matter, whatsoever
( or, more precisely, I did not have it until u set forth your reply above ).

I only ASKED, as a point of genuine curiousity,
for a precise description of the dangers to be feared.
U did a nice job of answering my question, hereinabove.

Quote:
I have no idea what his view on violence is.

My only information,
and the only factual basis that I have about violence in entertainment, as to children,
is from my own experience during the first few years of my life.

I remember seeing movies of cowboys ( or, more precisely, of acrobatic stuntment )
jumping off horses, pretending to have been shot during gunfights.
At around the age of 5, I was shocked, grossed out, alarmed and offended in my sensibilities.
I accepted, without question, my mother 's assurance that no one had really been killed.
I was confident that actors were NOT being slaughtered to make movies;
yet, this creeped me out, in a major way.

It was worse, in a non-violent melancholy movie of cowboys who 'd lost a friend,
whose death thay were somberly discussing.
An actor put on a white sheet, and acted as a ghost, chatting with his friend.
At that age,
I found that intensely disturbing, in my emotions,
tho I had no doubt that it was just an actor making a living, in costume.

Worst of all,
was the occasion of the police arriving at my aunt 's house, when I was 6,
to remove the corpse of my grandmother, who had died in her sleep of a heart attack.
I was in great fear of the dead body.
I cud not explain the reason for that phobia,
which applied to dead bodies of humans or of animals.

It wore off, with age.

Same in Oz?

Less censorship of sex stuff on tv, for instance.

But I think we, also, see more war than love.

I was in Austrailia for a week' s vacation,
about 25 years ago, in Melbourne.
I loved its zoo.
I stayed at the Melbourne Hyatt Hotel, which was opulent.

Anyway, I did not notice much difference in TV.
Has it changed ?

How is the less censorship of TV different than in America ?

I have a friend who makes doco's for both Nth America and Europe. He makes two versions of every doco, one with all sex removed for the US, and one with the violence removed for Europe.

(He gave an example of a dog's anus in the background of a shot being totally unacceptable for the US audience. You guys are weird!)

1. What 's a doco ?

2. We do not take notice of anuses.
That was not our censorship idea; ( so far as I know ).
We have been falsely accused.

Back to the original question, I recall that as a youth my parents did ot object to me seeing "R" rated movies so long as they did not have any nudity! Bloodshed, killings and maiming are cool but NUDITY will rot your brain! This is why we have a president impeached over a blow job whereas another president is allowed to kill and maim a million people without repercussion. It's a sad state of affairs.

I recall that in the 60s or 70s Sweden was censoring Walt Disney movies to remove the violence. I personally do not mind violence in a movie, if intelligently handled. Same with sex.

Your observations tend to support my position that "graphically showing killing is more socially acceptable than graphically showing adults having consensual sex in North America."

Not that I consider a dog's anus to have equivalency with adults having consensual sex.

I don't see a great deal of difference between Canada and the US in this regard, alas. Perhaps a tiny bit more relaxed in terms of sex on TV.
