after a traveling and moping hiatus (stolen suitcase, missed flight and many other misfortunes to mope about) i hit the gym with full vigor. 30 mins eliptical, round on the machines and ran 2 miles. felt good.
tried lifting weights, but the damn left wrist still damn hurts, so i couldn't really. seeing a surgeon on thursday to determine course of action.

Yay Joe!

Dag, sorry the wrist is still wonky.

Soz -- yardwork's definitely good. And it certainly fits what Noddy's saying -- a reward for doing something, as opposed to more of the same.

50 reps again today. So far, so good.

Week 15

12.9 miles

Scheduled cumulative mileage: 300
Actual cumulative mileage: 322.5

We spent a few days up in Montreal moving Nigel from the rez (Canadian
for "dorm") to an apartment for next year. I brought my gym bag and
running stuff -- but forgot long pants. Now in Montreal there are four
seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Construction. It was
Still Winter and I most definitely wasn't going for a run in shorts.

"rez" not "the rez" - whole nother connotation involving cigarette smugglers

Thanks, Beth. (I'm pretty sure he's not smuggling cigarettes.)
I'm still learning Canajun.

Yup - you don't want to be talking about "the rez" when you're crossing the border. Could add to a few too many extra questions.

oh, I did come by for a reason

I need to step things up a bit. Monday's technique class is good for technique but it's not making me schvetty anymore. I need to add something on Sunday or Tuesday.

My pants are too long. This is due to less gut holding them up.

I am looking forward to the purging of the current size. In about 10 lbs. for sure, maybe even in as few as 5.

Osso--

Yardwork counts.

George--

You're a steady man who is worth emulating--except in the Memory Department.

EhBeth--

Belly dancing while bungie jumping?

Jes--

Did you store the Ghosts of Wardrobes Past in your attic or is each week a shopping trip?

Long walk this AM. Fun! I'm more energetic than I usually am at this time of day.

I like working out when I'm traveling. Usually I'm up early and out on the
road for a leisurely jog. The rest of my family tends to sleep in, getting
up just in time to make to the breakfast buffet before it closes.

Montreal is a great place for a jog. There are two routes that I try take.
the first is up Mount Royal ("the mountain") to a beautiful overlook called
the Kondiaronk Belvedere. (That's not me in the picture.)

The second is along the LaChine canal, which runs parallel to the mighty
St. Lawrence. There's a great running/biking path there that is nearly
deserted in the early morning.

The worst places for jogging are hotels located near suburban office
parks. But the hotels are often inexpensive.

The best by far is a jog with Joe Nation through Central Park.

Noddy -- closet shopping is achieved in small bursts as I have little time otherwise. I suspect I'll miss some clothes as I fly past them in size. C'est la vie.

You missed a glorious day in the Park on Sunday.

It was the Run As One and there were 6,000 in the four mile and nearly half that in the fun run. You couldn't look anywhere without being bombarded with color.

And this morning I started in my usual 5:30 darkness, ran 5.5 as the sun burst through the tulip trees and the cherry blossoms.

I'm really really in intermediate performance now, with an occasional not-panic-inducing foray into advanced.

Kinda cool.

I can always tell when I'm in a class just beyond my abilities (where I am now and could be - according to the brochure - for the next 2 - 5 years) when I am schvetting. I schvitzed and schvettttzed and had a really good time tonight.

The technique class isn't as schvitzy, but I'm working on a plan on what I can do to step up the workout on another night to make up for that.

Or maybe one or two less intense nights are ok? we'll see.

I dig this exercise-done-me-in feeling.

ehBeth, good move to this advancing scenario. You are very stalwart in all this, which I admire, and have had so much fun...

I want to be an old lady with strong bones and joints - gotta be stalwart (I do like that word!) now to be set up for that.

Stalwart is an excellent word.

And I like that pic too. I remember standing right there in Central Park with bethie and others last year...

It becomes inceasingly difficult to run in the park.

It's too beautiful.
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/3976/img195bs6.jpg

This is from last night's run which consisted mostly of lollying along, gaping at the blossoms, watching others take pictures of the scenery, stopping, then more lollying.

Lollying, you should all know by now, is what burns fat. Lollying is moving at a speed that does not require you to gasp, a speed at which you not only can talk, but sing. (Last night was Paul Simon and Eric Clapton night.)
One must lolly for at least thirty minutes before the body has used up the inital carbos lying around for the purpose of energy, then it start looking (mostly at my waistline) for fat to burn. "Sing out," I say to myself, ignore that blond person's startled look, "Sing about the "Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes'. Lolly. Lolly. Lolly"
