I actually ran in shorts today. It was pushing the season a bit, though.

Did the first fifteen minutes easy, then cranked it up for twenty minutes
and coasted home for six.

Yikes about the cyst, dagmaraka.

Go, Geo, Go!

I gymmed.

By the way -- at my recent doc appt. (car accident follow-up) they were very impressed by my blood pressure. I never remember numbers but the last few times it was so-so (not a problem, but not so great). Good reminder that this stuff has real health benefits that aren't always obvious.

Way to go, maporshe! (That incline isn't on a treadmill is it?)

Bad news on that cyst, Dag, mebbe no more boxing, mebbe become really good wrestling person. (Why am I vaguely aroused?)

George keeps trucking.... .

And sozobe reminded me of an article I just read about the push-up. Yes, the push-up. The exercise that is so simple you can do twenty of them while the drill sargent keeps his foot on the middle of your back. Actually, what the piece said was that being able to do even ten to fifteen push-ups can be the difference between being badly injured in a fall and not being injured at all.

In a forward fall, a person reaches toward the ground and uses the arms and wrists and hands as shock absorbers. That's one of the sets of muscles and bones that are strengthened by the push-up. Who'd have thought that Master Sargent Dooley (rhymes with cruelty) was only trying to help me not break a hip.

Good week for me, a couple of shorts and a race put me at 26 plus, But, and it's a big but (Butt?) I'm tuckered. I skipped a four mile race this morning because I didn't feel like getting out in the rain and cold again.

Joe(rhymes with schmoe, also slow,) Nation
Almost to Hartford, on the way to my hometown of Manchester.

I fell with an outstretched hand. (Called a FWOSH by the therapist I
spent some real quality time with later on.) I fell from a bicycle onto
asphalt. My wrist shattered into several pieces which an orthopaedic
surgeon reassembled and held in place with brackets and screws. I've
gotten a lot of range back, but my wrist no longer bends back far enough
for a push-up. So I do bench presses.

It's a snowy day in Chelmsford. I'm at work, waiting for the Thermatron
to get down to -40.

....yes.....it's on a treadmill. I know that it's not ideal, but I have this problem when I run outside where I am not able to pace myself at a sustainable pace. I tend to run too fast and burn out too quickly. Also, because I work all day I can only run at night, and since I live..........well, see, no you have me making excuses.

I am ordering a GPS watch that will help me track my speed and maintain a pace I can sustain. In addition, my dog is motivating me to run with her outside so there's another motivation. I need to get outdoors to make these runs.

Them damned bicycles. I rode mine all over Oklahoma (50,000 miles in about ten years) and trained thousands of people to ride in FreeWheel yet.....it's always yet, on a little Wednesday Night Ride on a street I'd ridden a thousand times, I crashed and broke a shoulder.

I rode again about ten weeks later and kept riding until I moved to the city. Now I don't ride at all.

oy.that sounds a lot more painful. my Cyst in the Wrist also dates back to a bike fall. My Ex - The Monster - was playing with his new GPS I gave him for his birthday, I was riding in front of him. I slowed down to point out a house on the left, he didn't notice. Crashed into me and off i went flying, right onto a freshly paved road. Skinned my arms from elbows to tips of my pinkies and my wrist was messed up forever after than. It wasn't broken though, maybe cracked at the most. I can't do push ups either, only only on fists, you know, leaning on knuckles instead of palms. Not that I miss push ups terribly....
But the cyst itself is a meditation injury. It appeared after two months in India, where you sit mostly on the floor, and thus lean on your wrists quite a bit. When I came back, the cyst came with me.

Oh, Dag, a true Monster!

As for me, I ran 7 K yesterday (2nd best time since I returned to running).
Gotta make up for the semi-lost week of dental problems.

Gentlemen--

Not to neglect you, but I can understand gymming and optimistic wardrobe revamping. Even cysts.

Soz and Jes--

Well done.

Dag--

Out, damned cyst.

After the marathon I treated myself to a Garmin 150 (no gps, but with the heart monitor) It's been a real help in pacing. I've been working on keeping inceasing my average speed and it's just too easy to look at the watch and see just what your pace per mile is at the moment. Most times I end up saying "Hey, giddy-up"

Good week to all!

I'm thinking of getting a stability ball. Anything I should know about this (should I make a new topic)? I'm 5'6" which I take it is a measurement that matters (so I believe the 65 cm size is right, is it?). Would I need to get a pump, too?

Thanks!

Does "Stability ball" mean "exercise ball"?

I'd go for a new topic.

Exercise balls were on sale for half price in January, so I got two. One is a sphere, one is a cylinder. I invested in a doughnut-shaped holder for the sphere, but I still feel safer with the cylinder.

I do not have a physically adventurous spirit.

As for exercises, I'm working on the first itty-bitty steps in the booklets that come with the balls.

Incidently, pumps are included.
