Teeny, thanks for the kind words. Very Happy

A reminder that the Senate will vote on landmark global warming legislation. I'm fortunate to have two excellent Senators who vote for conservation legislation. In case you're senators are not certain how they will vote, you can send them five good reasons why the new Global Warming bill should be enacted:

1. Every year we wait equals extra effort. If we delay this bill by just two years, we will have to make twice the annual cuts in carbon emissions to hit the same cumulative reductions by 2020.

2. The science is unforgiving. As the Earth warms, we approach a "tipping point," after which large destructive climate changes become inevitable.

3. The political opportunity is ripe. 78% of Americans want Congress to act on global warming. We need to take advantage of the tremendous momentum that exists today.

4. Someone is going to win the global race to reinvent energy. It should be us. Renewable energy promises to become one of the world's most profitable industries. But advances in renewable energy technologies will not be fully realized without a national cap on global warming pollution. The sooner we act, the sooner these new industries will start to flourish.

5. What legacy will the 110th Congress leave? When future generations look back at this moment, they will either praise the Senate for starting us down the path to solving the global warming crisis, or blame the Senate for squandering this opportunity.

From WWF

A First for Freshwater

Imagine being tasked with creating a comprehensive map and database of the diversity of life in the world's freshwater ecosystems. That's exactly what more than 200 leading conservation scientists have done... and it took them over 10 years to do it. Why? Freshwater habitats support more than 100,000 species and provide humans with critical services such as drinking water and fisheries. Yet--until now--there were no data on global freshwater biodiversity synthesized in a way that was useful to conservation. The Freshwater Ecoregions of the World (FEOW) project, a collaboration between WWF and The Nature Conservancy, changes all of that. Explore the 426 ecoregions of the map and discover this extensive and easily searchable resource.

I believe it - the Dubya is a thief, stealing America from Americans right in front of our noses.

And, his father, Herbert Walker, has backed Obama. But, for only a fifteen second segment on TV. Since then, not one word has been said about the backing. That is the scary part to me. The complete, total silence. There is a lot going on in back rooms with very powerful people that we will never know about. So, be prepared to vote for Obama or McCain. There apparently is no middle ground at this point.

It's a sad world when nations are won and controlled by so few people.

An endangered species visitor {Western Pond Turtle} to the neighborhood yesterday. Still not certain what he was doing so far from the pond. After a cool bath and plenty of water to sustain his traveling, away he went across the street, and hopefully returning to the pond. Today when i went to town, saw the turtles sunning on the banks by the water. Bet the visitor was among them. Very Happy

The first photo was of the female of the Pond Turtle species. The next photo is that of the male Turtle - who resembles the one who visited. The shell was more brownish coloring than the photo. What an interesting animal!

Dan, absolutely nothing political surprises me.

I would hope that Americans are a lot sharper than they were eight years ago.

Teeny, it will take years to udo the damage caused by the current administration.

What really makes me laugh is listening to republicans running for office, or trying to get re-elected. "Fiscal responsibility" is the new catch phrase. Rolling Eyes

Did a couple of sets of anonymous clicks.

Love those turtles and tortoises. Got to meet a couple of friendly tortoises at the Darwin exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea tortoises could be playful.

Beth,

My neighbor called and said "You're the wildlife 'expert' {yeah, right} and what do i do with a turtle"! She told me he was sitting near the concrete drive. Pouring water over him she said "Now what"! LOL

Well, after meeting the lil' guy and chatting, decided it was better for him to find his was instead of picking him up, placing him in the truck, and driving to the pond. He was healthy, sharp, and after his bath and water drink, he said 'thanks' and walked across the street, climbed a hill on another property, then rested, then after accepting more cool water, he was on his way. I named him Mortimer. Shocked Very Happy

Stradee and all.

Recently, I was driving to town and saw what looked like a rock in the road - it was a turtle - I stopped and set the turtle on the side of the road it was facing. Hoped for the best. Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

More Suthen-ism's:
Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissie fit and a
conniption fit , and that you don't "HAVE" them, you "PITCH" them.
_____

Only a Southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens,
peas, beans, etc., make up "a mess."
_____

Only a Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction
of "yonder."
_____

Only a Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is, . As in:
"Going to town, be back directly."
_____

Even Southern babies know that "Gimme some sugar" is not a request for
the white, granular sweet substance that sits in a pretty little bowl
in the middle of the table.
_____

All Southerners know exactly when "by and by" is. They might not use
the term, but they know the concept well.
_____

Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace
for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a
big bowl of cold potato salad. If the neighbor's trouble is a real
crisis, they also know to add a large banana puddin!
_____

Only Southerners grow up knowing the difference between "right near"
and "a right far piece." They also know that "just down the road" can
be 1 mile or 20.
_____

Only a Southerner, both knows and understands, the difference between
a redneck, a good ol' boy, and Po white trash.
_____

No true Southerner would ever assume that the car with the flashing
turn signal is actually going to make a turn.
_____

A Southerner knows that "fixin" can be used as a noun, a verb, or an
adverb.
_____

Only Southerners make friends while standing in lines, ... And when
we're "in line," . We talk to everybody!
_____

Put 100 Southerners in a room and half of them will discover they're
related, even if only by marriage.
_____

In the South, y'all is singular, all y'all is plural.
_____

Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them.
_____

Every Southerner knows tomatoes with eggs, bacon, grits, and coffee
are perfectly wonderful; that red eye gravy is also a breakfast food;
and that fried green tomatoes are not a breakfast food.
_____

When you hear someone say, "Well, I caught myself lookin'," you know
you are in the presence of a genuine Southerner!
_____

Only true Southerners say "sweet tea", "sweet milk", and "light
bread". Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it -- we do
not like our tea unsweetened. "Sweet milk" means you don't want
buttermilk. And "Light bread" is white bread.
_____

And a true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at little old
ladies who drive 30 MPH on the freeway. You just say,"Bless her heart"
... And go your own way.
_____

To those of you who are still a little embarrassed by your
Southerness: Take two tent revivals and a dose of sausage gravy and
call me in the morning. Bless your heart!
_____
And to those of you who are still having a hard time understanding all
this Southern stuff, ... bless your hearts, I hear they are fixin' to
have classes on Southernness as a second language!
_____

And for those that are not from the South but have lived here for a
long time, all y'all need a sign to hang on y'alls front porch that
reads "I ain't from the South, but I got here as fast as I could."

Southern girls know men may come and go, but friends are fahevah !

Now..... Shugah, send this to someone who was raised in the South or
wish they had been!

If you're a Northern transplant, Bless your little heart, fake it. We
know you got here as fast as you could.

---------------------

I added this one. No one on earth knows how to spell -
"aaaiigghhhhh". As in when the dog is about to poop in the house a
Southerner sez, "aaaaiggggghhhh"

Till later,

Dan
