just wanted to let people know my experience, and maybe to warn Uk people about a recruitment agency called "diamond recruitment"

they advertised a job on the oficial jobcentre website, i sent off my cv, the lady rang me back saying i had the job.

it was only temp, was supposed to be for three months, i was covering for a woman who was due to go into hospital.

i started last wednesday, did everything to the best of my ability, didnt have time off, except for one day when the agency themselves told me i had to go to the doctors to get my monetering forms filled in, apart from that nothing.

i went to work today as normal, had a great day, did my work, my boss told me what i would be doing tomorrow, and i left, when i got home i got a phone call from the agency telling me i was no longer needed for the job.

i was confused and asked what i did wrong, she told me nothing, they didnt need the cover anymore, i signed on to the jobcentre website afterwards as i now need a new job for money for xmas, and my job had been put back up saying they were looking for someone to start asap.

i called my "boss" and told him i was confused, and was i to come to work in the morning, he said he did not know anything and he hadnt had contact with the agecy today apart from recieving my wage details...

now i am jobless just before xmas and i didnt do anything worng, beware of this agency unless you want to be replaced for no reason, and then lied to!

I'd go to your work and have an meeting with your "boss".

Discuss your concerns with him have him call the agency. It is possible the advertisment is a generic one.

see where it goes.

I work in a Jobcentre (I'm an advisor).

Unfortunately, your story is all too common.

Employers can put details of vacancies directly on to the JobcentrePlus database now, obviously they are checked for legality, but we do have problems with agencies.

They (agencies) are paid a fee by the government for every new Jobseeker they put on their books. Often there are no legitimate jobs. Advisors are not allowed to discuss agencies with their customers, as it could be seen as promotion of a particular agency.

Please put your complaints in writing to the VSM (Vacancy Service Manager) as they may not act on a verbal complaint. They will investigate and remove the agency.

It's a difficult problem to deal with, as there are many legitimate agencies, and many people find legitimate jobs through them. We are in the business of finding people sustainable employment, and don't want to put employers 'off' using our database by over zealous vetting procedures. However, less than honest employers can slip through the nets.

Don't let it put you off using them in future. Try to look for well known, nationally advertised agencies, or ask around and see if you can get any recommendations. Ask more questions, before you take the job, if it's legitimate, they will answer them, ask for something in writing, though I accept this may put a busy agency off.

Hope you get it sorted, I'm sorry this happened to you, but you are one of many, I'm afraid.

Speak to your Personal Advisor, that's what they are there for.

Best wishes.

x

Either that, or the boss at your place of work was too spineless to tell you to your face that he would prefer someone else to do the job, for whatever reason.

Probably what smorg says though.

hi again and thankyou for the answers, i was mainly ranting last night when i posted as i was confused, i did email my personal advisor and she never got back, i also called my boss four times last night as he was there late for a function, he told me he would call me back, i told him it was important he did as i needed to know if i was coming into work today, he told me if it got too late he would call me at 7.30am this morning to let me know either way, he never did, so i guess there is my answer.
thanks again everyone.
