East End of London - Sept07

Inner City Angels.

Izzie thanks for your angel. Could you tell me more about the significance of "Inner City Angel?"

Hi Sglass

It was just the name I put to this graffiti (art) - we were driving through a very down trodden area of inner city London towards the bright and sparkly financial district - everything was rather grey and sad looking - almost defeated looking - then as we came up to a set of traffic lights I saw this "angel" - and I thought it was rather beautiful. To me it looks like there is a story behind it - the angel appears to be holding a skull, with a backward-turned baseball cap on, and the young angel looks like s/he's wearing a bullet-proof vest. I may be completely wrong, but that's how I see it. The "angel" appears to have received his/her real angel wings at far too earlier an age.

Painted in black and white, onto a red brick wall. I found this graffiti very artistic - tho if it's telling a story - I imagine it is a sad story. I think it's quite an emotional piece of work by whoever was responsible for painting it. Just my interpretation of course.

Graffitti
I haven't seen this but many years ago read that this was on the bathroom walls of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks are French, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian and it is all organized by the swiss.

Saw a good one just yesterday in South Boston, beautifully -- almost professionally -- spray-painted on a whitewashed wall:

WAR IS AN UNNATURAL DISASTER

@Merry Andrew,
it's something put together by a couple of fans of the ron and fez radio show, the dialogue is from the radio show, ron and fez were discussing graffiti and graffiti artists, and the fans put together this little video

And it is so true, Sglass ... well, in my experience, anyway! Optimism/confidence simply means you don't know all the facts yet! Wink

@Sglass,
Good 'un.

Recently spotted scratched into the ground near an overlook of Mount Kilauea's main caldera which has been exhuding noxious fumes from the Hale'mau'mau Crater for a year and a half now:

NO SMOKING

Above it, fairly crudely drawn but instantly recognizable, was the universal no-smoking collograph.
