US military strike on Pakistan advocated

* Analysts say likely dangers include collapse of Pakistan govt
* Propose Special Forces operation to prevent nukes from falling into wrong hands
* Suggest supporting army

By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: Two experts have proposed that the US should take pre-emptive action to secure Pakistan's nuclear weapons before they fall into the wrong hands...

(Daily Times)

--------------------------------

Well, that certainly wasn't long in coming.

This is less for Pakistani consumption than it is a "trial balloon" to attempt to create a consensus in the US that such action would actually be the right thing to do.

However, any possible US military intervention is fraught with problems, no matter which road is chosen.

And of course, because the US has again managed to back a dictator because he is/was "our thug", the Pakistani people will be less than enthusiastic about any further US meddling in their country's affairs.

"And of course, because the US has again managed to back a dictator because he is/was "our thug", the Pakistani people will be less than enthusiastic about any further US meddling in their country's affairs."

30 years ago we backed a thug in Iran called the Shah. Then President Carter stopped supporting the thug, and demanded democratic reforms. And sure enough, governmental change did come to Iran - though not everyone in the western world is currently overjoyed with the current government of Iran.

Now there is a new thug in a different country. Once again, it is likely we could encourage a change of government in this new country. When change does come to the government in Pakistan, I hope very much we will not have cause to regret this new government.

Jimmy Olsen just pointed out that he can't find Clark Kent? Hey, up in the sky, look, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's...
