The 2008 Democratic candidates are beholden to a "hyper-partisan, politically paranoid" liberal base that could endanger the final nominee's chances of winning next year's presidential election, Joe Lieberman, the former vice-presidential Democratic candidate, said yesterday.

In his most outspoken attack on fellow Democrats since he was unsuccessfully challenged last year by Ned Lamont, a liberal Democrat, for his Senate seat in Connecticut, Mr Lieberman yesterday said he might not vote for the Democratic presidential nominee next year.

I don't know what he means by "politically paranoid," but it's pretty rich that Lieberman calls the Democrats paranoid. Lieberman was gung ho about invading and occupying an entire country simply because there were slight discrepancies (around 5 to 10 percent) between WMD accounted for and WMD conjectured to be there in that country (is that his idea of pie in the sky morality?). If the Democrats are "politically" paranoid, then Lieberman is psychotically so.

The article quotes him as saying, "[today's Democrats] are inclined to see international problems as a result of America's engagement with the world and are viscerally opposed to the use of force - the polar opposite to the self-confident and idealistic nationalism of the party I grew up in."

Is he denying that there have been international problems as a result of America's engagement with the world? Does he not think that the sty that the US has created out of Iraq is an international problem that is a direct result of America's engagement?

The article refers to his description of the Democratic party's "tradition of a 'moral, internationalist, liberal and hawkish' foreign policy that was established by presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John Kennedy."

That "moral, internationalist, liberal and hawkish" tradition helped spawn the Cold War in which the US and its Communist enemies fought proxy wars through countless regional wars with their attendant crimes against humanity (how liberal is that?), and, in the case of Truman's intervention in Korea, issues that are as yet unresolved. Kennedy's intervention in Vietnam turned out to be much ado about virtually nothing seeing as how Vietnam is now a trading partner of the US, and is still a communist country.

Amazing, here is the guy that Al Gore chose to be his running mate just a few years ago. It serves to demonstrate one powerful fact, that the Democratic Party has veered so far left that they are beholden to extremist groups, such as Moveon.org. After all, George Soros thinks he has paid for the party and he should own it. The Democratic Party is currently so far removed from what America is about that it is frightening to even consider. That they would even have a ghost of a chance of winning makes me wonder if we are in the twilight zone.
