Possible to recalibrate electric coil or infinite switch?

Anyone know if it is possible to recalibrate the temperature of an electric coil or infinite switch on an electric range and if so, how is it done?

If the switch needs to be replaced is this something I can easily do myself or do I need to have a repair person do it?

The problem: One of the coils (the most often used) seems to be losing the ability to adjust temperatures. It is high or nothing regardless of the setting being warm, low or medium. The other coils aren't as conveniently placed but work properly.

It's one of those GE Hotpoints with dual ovens and a range top.

All electrical repairs should be done by properly trained and qualified personnel. Many ranges use 220 volts. 110 volts can kill, and 220 definitely can. Don't risk losing your life or setting your house in fire!

If I didn't feel comfortable doing some household repairs I wouldn't have asked.

I've installed electric outlets and light switches and hard-wired light fixtures. If it is as easy as that, then it is something I can handle.

And believe it or not, I do know where the breaker box is and have a tester to confirm the juice is off. Wink
