Fine, but I didn't feel much the wiser after reading in FAQ:

"What are Featured topics?
Featured topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post featured topics in each forum."

Velly solly but, being but a humble journalist, I still want some qualification as to WHAT they are.
From the above I learn where they are, also that they entail special requirements (permissions). Still I do not grasp the nature of the verb in the case in point.

Can anybody help?

Exits backwards, bowing low...

Basically, some topics are featured so that they're easier to find. 'Cause they're good, and worth finding.

Does that help?

Truthyness--

Check out: http://www.able2know.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=10 or any of the other pages in the Forum Index.

On A2K the Moderators are frequently called "hamsters". It is a complicated in joke. Pictures of hamsters:

I hope you're enjoying your time on A2K.

Featured articles are marked as such by groups of "Forum Specialists" who are below moderators in power over the site. About all they can do is set the feature bit on. It is my understanding they have to defer to moderators to lock threads, remove posts, suspend members, etc.

I was asked to be a Forum Specialist once, a long time ago, before lots of other things happened.

Anyway, welcome to A2K. It's an interesting place.

Thank you CJHSA and yes indeed, it does appear to be just that.

I frequently have to edit text, but being exposed to all kinds of jargon and languages, finding myself far from the motherland getting old and decrepit... it sure as hell is good to have found a language sounding board.

Doubt is the killer factor with editing and a board like this can slap that dead!

Noddy... then I suspect that makes two of us?

In my book however, anyone able to dispel the fog of doubt that clouds some of the nuances of the language is an urban warrior. Moons ago I was too cowardly to take up the challenge of Latin at school. I have been paying for it ever since, and the result is that my command of this quick-sand-we-have-for-a-means-of-communication will never be anything better than uncertain.

Let us see if this forum can be like Linus's blanket.

... sigh!

Truthiness--

I suspect that English is not your first language.

I confess that English is my only language. You're obviously at least one up on me.

If your first point is sarcasm, then it is stinging! If however, and I suspect this to be the case, it is sincere, then the hopelessness of my situation is confirmed!

The second point simply shows your graciousness.

And yes I suppose being bi-lingual can (in my case does) undermine one's "mother" tongue. Evidence of that may be that the interpreters and translators I know have to work overtime in the struggle to preserve their first language.

So......one deduces that English IS your first language, but you feel it is rapidly being outdone by your other language/s?

We haven't had Forum Specialists in over 3 years, maybe 4 by now.

Erm well more a case of losing my grip on both!!! Round these parts no one speaks any language intelligibly in the first place, and that is most likely part of the problem!

This forum will have to be my mainstay! It is great having a source to tap.

Right now, the way I feel, I'd like to go back to first form English grammar and take up Latin while I'm about it!

Cheers y'all
