The EcoWater guy is both honest and correct - the ESD2500 is better equipment and it is more efficient.

Thanks for your expertise and recommendation. I appreciate your obvious "free" time expended on my problem. Nice to know that help like yours is out there.

I'm going to go with the ESD 2500!

Greatly appreciated,
Jed

I took your advise and visited my local ECOWATER Dealer. I asked about the 2510SE and, like you, he highly recommended it and also mentioned that is what they routinely install for their rental units.

Help me out here from someone who obviously knows, which one should I buy?

He is not educating you about softeners. He is selling you a softener; a 30K or 40K.

You should know that the K of capacity is adjustable. It is dictated by the volume and type of resin in the tank and then the salt dose used in lbs. Ask him the physical size of the softener in cubic feet (of resin) and then the salt dose in lbs and what the salt efficiency will be based on the K of capacity your water and family size requires.

Then ask him for the continuous service flow rate (SFR) in gpm. Make sure it is the continuous flow rate and not the peak flow rate. The peak flow rate is only good for a few minutes of that gpm flow rate.

The importance is that every time your household draws/uses more gpm than those rated gpm figures, the softener can not remove all the hardness in your water; guaranteed.

All resin manufacturers will tell you the same thing and you can find the SFR for whatever brand of resin is in your softener on their web site by finding the specific resin's spec sheet. Or go here.

BTW, what is the difference between the 2510 SE and their ESD2500; Fleck does not make the 2500 any more... but maybe that was a typo on your part so, assuming it is an ESD2510, is it mechanical metered demand regenerated or a day timer clock control instead of electronic metered demand regenerated?

OK, I see the 2500 is not a Fleck control valve, it's a lesser quality Ecowater model number. My Bad... and I know the difference. The Fleck is much better than a glorified and over priced version of a Kenmore.
