New Mexican Senator to retire at end of current term, states degenerative brain disease as reason. Should he consider early retirement?
Whether he should or not, I'm not sure. How does the system
handle things if the disease progression is fast?
More on it here --

Looks as though he is letting his conscience decide.
I like Pete. He's almost the only politician to whom I've made campaign contributions. He swore he would never turn my name over to anyone as a hot prospect for contributions. So far as I can tell, he never did. That's respectable.
It's very brave of Domenici to announce that he has degenerative brain disease. Just how many more Republicans are still hiding theirs?
Oh, and by the way, let's hope for Domenici's sake that his condition might be cured through advances brought about by stem cell research. Oh wait, he
voted against that.
Never mind.
He also strongly pushed a bill offering incentives to energy (oil & gas) producers to help with the energy crisis. Truely, they got all the incentive they needed at the gas pump. Still, I liked him, and still do.
