By raising taxes!!!! Evil or Very Mad Typical liberal solution - we have too many entitlement programs, businesses fleeing the state, so let's raise taxes! Complete and utter idiocy.

The line to recall Granholm starts behind me.

By the numbers: What the taxes will cost you
October 2, 2007

INCOME TAX

What happened: The state income tax rate was increased from 3.9% to 4.35%.

How much it will raise:

$744.8 million

Took effect: Monday

What it will cost you: ???

SERVICES TAX

What happened: The state's 6% sales tax was expanded to about 60 services.

How much it will raise:

$613.8 million

Takes effect: Dec. 1

What it will cost you:

Tanning

Now: 10 visits for $34.95 to $65

After Dec 1: 10 visits for $37.04 to $68.90

Party planning services

Now: $1,500 flat fee up to $10,000

After Dec. 1: $1,590 to $10,600

Wedding chapel rental

Now: $199 to $529

After Dec. 1: $210.94 to $560.74

Ski lift tickets

Now: $28 to $57

After Dec. 1: $29.68 to $60.42

BUDGET CUTS

What happens next: The taxes didn't fill all the budget deficit gap. The Legislature needs to cut its spending over the next 12 months to make up the difference.

How much to be cut: $435 million

How soon: Legislature has 29 days.

What might be cut:

• Aid to Michigan's community colleges and 15 public universities may be frozen.

• Medicaid costs, by tightening eligibility, possibly eliminating 19- and 20-year-olds from the rolls.

• Medicaid payments to doctors and hospitals.

• Welfare, by limiting eligibility to four years.

• Rescinding a planned 2.5% increase for K-12 public schools.

I can imagine your distress that maintaining that perfect tan will now bankrupt you....

You can always move somewhere else, you know.

Would you like to take a stab at how they came up with those choices?

I mean, a literal stab, because they apparently threw darts.

Personally, I'm amazed that any product or service is exempt from the sales tax.

That's how we do it here, ya know. State sales tax, no income tax.
