Question about Christian icons

I wonder if anyone knows a bit more about Christian icons.

We've got two ... and I think, they are Russian and may be from 18th century.

This one seems to be something like a calendar of saints ...

Found this, Walter, plus a marvelous hymn inspired by your thread.

Love the music and the lyrics.

Walter, the icons are breathtaking regardless of their significance. I wonder if that detail is the head of John the Baptist, and if the language is aramaic? I'm certain Francis will know.

The language in the icon is written with the Cyrillic alphabet, so it's probably Russian but it can also be from some Russia surrounding countries. I'm working on it..

Here, examples of Cyrillic and Aramaic alphabets :

Thanks, Francis!

Yes, it could very well be Russian - it came from there, I was told, and we were always referring to it as a "Russian icon".
