Europe and the Mediterranean: Energy and the Environment

Hello all;

I have a pretty interesting question about Europe and its energy security. We all know that Europe is the world's second largest market for oil, with over 450 million consumers, yet maintaining the security of energy sources has been more and more needed today.

But if we look at Europe's relationship with its southern neighbours: the Mediterranean countries. How should the EU build a mutually beneficial
partnership with those countries to fully serve its interests regarding energy security and environmental sustainability?

We should look at both aspects: energy security AND environmental sustainability, meaning that renewable energy should be considered instead of total dependance on oil.

So here I am questioning how to improve "energy security" while maintaining enviornmental sustainability.

Any ideas about that?

I would really appreciate if you give me at least some
thoughts or ideas or maybe facts and figures or even
websites which you might have knowledge of.
