Meanwhile ... looking at the damage done in Townsville during the freak storm.
Very glad you folk & your critters further north didn't cop the full impact of this, too!

@msolga,
This would be incredibly funny if it wasn't happening in the middle of an election campaign.
You don't even need to read the articles to follow the saga. Just follow the headlines.

Last one, hinge, I promise.

@msolga,
Yep, pretty gutting, sorry Curtis Pitt lost Mulgrave - he seems genuinely nice, but I can't say I'm generally invested in state politics - hopefully that's the last of Qld venting against the ALP - it's hard not see positives about switching after the best part of twenty years, and who knows, maybe it will be good for the state, and longer term better for the ALP. Love that Katter sees it as a victory. Drunk uncles rule!

Now with most state govs under LNP control the electorate will see a Labor federal government as a good check - Howard did it for long enough and didn't seem to suffer.

Appalled by Gavin King winning Cairns. I only know him through his editorials in the Murdoch owned Cairns Post. Yuck. I guess it shows that Qld voted against Labor rather than for the LNP vision ("make us 'Can Do' Queensland again" sigh). Still in Australia absolute power doesn't usually last for long (except in Queensland, if you're Joh Bjelke Petersen).

Maybe the QPS will buck up under a new regime - their performance has been spotty for a while, quite possibly because of a stagnation in govt.

And the bunnies lost, but the brumbies won, as did Sunderland so 50/50 in my most watched sporting codes (League, Union, EPL and Politics)

Trust me, after you see what a LNP government actually does in power, you will be!
(Speaking from experience here, sadly.)

Public servants will definitely notice the difference!

I hope you're right.
I was thinking the same thing, but wondered if I was grasping at straws? Wink

Still (speaking from our current Victorian experience again) a dose of conservative government is just the reminder the electors need as a reminder of what they actually stand for. I think we all became complacent & our state Labor governments became rather tired & stale from being in power for so long.

Anyway, hinge, glad to hear you are not too down in the dumps. Smile

Just as well you support the Brumbies, considering the fiasco that was the Reds. (61-8)

THE Liberal Nationals will walk away from far-reaching accountability commitments as they rocket towards a landslide election victory.
The Courier-Mail can reveal the LNP has junked a controversial 90-page accountability policy produced in 2010 by the party's head office.
But despite spruiking how restoring accountability would be a top priority, the unbackable election favourites have so far failed to replace their own policy.
Entitled "Responsible, Honest, Transparent in Government", the policy was highly controversial as it was signed by former leader John-Paul Langbroek on behalf of all LNP MPs.

Sounds like they don't want to be accountable ........

Ooh. Maybe Curtis Pitt will hold onto Mulgrave
http://virtualtallyroom.ecq.qld.gov.au/elections/state/State2012/results/district60.html

Apparently KAP has no preference deal, and encouraged people to put KAP first, whoever they hate the most last and whatever they wanted in the middle.

Looking at the above it looks like quite a few KAP voters leant more to Pitt than Quick, not sure if it was party or personal preference.
