A victory for children in immigration "detention" centers.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has agreed to change the way it was treating the children in their "custody". Among the changes promised for the children from 1 to 17 in detention are:

- Kids can now wear normal clothes instead of being forced to wear prisoners clothing.
- Kids are now allowed to keep pens and paper in their cells.
- Kids will no longer be threatened with being separated from their parents by guards.
- Kids will be given education opportunities and allowed on field trips.
- Kids will now have guaranteed regular access to a pediatritian.

These are children who are being held in a former maximum security prison while their families are applying for asylum.

I hope that no one thinks that treating kids with a bit of compassion is a bad thing.

I'm hoping that the only reasons they were treated that way in the first place had to do with bureaucracy and using a facility for other than its intended purpose. So yeah, these are good changes.
