Most a s s h o l e s dont have a clue that they are a s s h o l e s .
Whenever I sound like an a s s h o l e my wife always tells me that Im starting to sound like that guy on A2K who writes in large crayon sized letters and spells like a retard.
I speak quietly in restaurants,
and, in point of fact, when choosing a restaurant
into which I will put my group, relative quietness
( its acoustics ) is among the criteria which I apply.
About 20 or 25 years ago, I put the Opulent Mensan SIG
into Petrosian on 57th St ( the caviar capital of the Western World ).
We had about 25 members; the acoustics were such that everyone
in the restaurant was competing with everyone else to make himself heard
above the din. I had to stand up and request quieter conversation 3 times.
Each time was successful, for about half a minute.
Hence, I 've been checking the acoustics beforehand, ever since
For that reason, I abandoned use of the back garden
at Tavern on the Green, during summer evenings; a singularly beautiful place.
The manager ( the late Werner LeRoy 's youngest daughter ) loves dances.
She has loud dance music played every nite after dusk out in the garden, on summer nites,
with result that we can 't have social conversation: so, off the list. I miss it.
It still good inside.
I don 't know whether thay let farmers in there, or not.
