What good does religion offer the world today?

@Olivier5,
I'm not religious, but have always been fascinated by the temples built all around the world. Many are architectural marvels. Even in India, I saw a temple with the dome plated in gold.

@TheCobbler,
That's a bit of a stretch. James had male lovers, but he had a wife and fathered children.

As far as openness goes, not really outside of court. This was a Scottish king on an English throne. He wasn't going to take too many chances. The Gunpowder plot is still commemorated today.

@Leadfoot,
When I was at college Warrior magazine first came out. That's where V for Vendetta was first serialised. Unfortunately the magazine folded before the strip finished and I had to wait a bloody long time before the graphic novel was published.

Every Bonfire night I go mental with fireworks.

Openness? Let's discuss beheading 8 wives and founding a church on adultery.

@TheCobbler,
Openness or hysteria? Who beheaded eight wives?

And what has any of this got to do with modern day Christianity?

Religion is fine. Organized religion is not.

Organized religions are businesses. Its preachers are bean counters, not soul savers. All organized religions are cults who brainwash their members with fire and brimstone fear mongering.

If you want to get rid of the deficit then tax organized religion.

Examples: Pat Robertson became a multi billionaire by attacking gay people and tubba tubies. He explains this by claiming to be blessed.

The treasury of the roman catholic could end world poverty. More money is spent by them on paying settlements for pedophiliac priestcraft than for charity.

I pray in my heart and soul that hell is for real!

@Voice asMusic,
Hell is a manmade idea like heaven. Once we are born then die, that's the extent of our spec of a life on this planet. Man has become very creative in how to make money. That's why so many gods were created. They didn't know how to create the computer or the internet.
Marketing scams are prevalent today, because people know there are many people out there who would buy anything that sounds good. That wise meme, "if it's too good to be true, ....." still hasn't been learned.

When someone lose their will power where does it go?

What is "the will" and where does it reside?

Is the will made of thoughts or feelings?

@TheCobbler,
To lose your will power is to lose sight of your convictions.

The heart is in the mind not in the chest.

The will is the innermost part of the mind.

@TheCobbler,
Yes, let's be honest. For better or worse, we have effectively imposed socialism on ourselves.

We as a group seem to be fighting it every step of the way.

@Leadfoot,
America doesn't look very socialist from where I'm standing.

@izzythepush,
It's very institutionalized and enforced by the state so it probably doesn't look very socialist from where Jesus stands either.
