Help with an English -> Latin motto

Reply Thu 13 Feb, 2014 08:03 pm
I'm designing a logo for my local gaming group, and wanted a Latin motto because we are spoofing fraternities and 'olde' type groups. The particular utterance is "nowhere near done", a famous statement from our drunken leader about the remaining length of his turn. The implied full sentence would be "(we are) nowhere near done (gaming)". I know the subject gets in some wierd places in Latin. Any help would be much appreciated, google translate is givin me "nullo modo fieri" which just seems wrong. Any help would be appreciated, ill put a picture up when finished!

@Lordbrooks,
Good god, Brooksy, haven't seen or heard from you since that lap dancing fiasco in Singapore!

Hope it healed up OK.

We have a resident Latin wizard who's pretty good at this sort of thing.

His name's George and he usually arrives after I put the word round and we all sit down and send mental vibes.

Altogether now........
Ommmmmmmmmmnnnmmmmmnnnnnmmmmmmm.

To begin with "nowhere near" is an English idiom, so we need a Latin
equivalent. Nullo modo means "in no way" which works for me. Fieri
means "to happen". The common phrase this is part of is Nullo modo fieri
potest
, meaning "It can in no way happen". But that's not quite what you
want either. I'd suggest Nullo modo factum, which is literally "In no way
done", but pretty much an equivalent way to say "Nowhere near done".

@George,
Awesome thank you so much! Now it's time to get in the vector mines. Much appreciated, you're keeping this dead language in a state of frankensteinian glory.
