When has religion irked you personally and why?

Stop hijacking the thread maliagar. This thread was never meant to be about evidence. It was about opinion and impressions.

With that maniacal laughter you posted, I'm guessing the evidence is they left the asylum library's door ajar and the PC unlocked. Be sure you log out before you go back to your cell.

Disclaimer: this is all meant in good humor, poking fun at magliagar's pretenses and affectations.

Seems to me, no thread in A2K is about supporting one's views about the topic at hand with arguments (at least not for certain people). It's just about personal preferences, beliefs, and leaps of faith thrown to the wind as if they were solid truths.

Cav: I cannot hijack anything. Nobody is forced to feel compelled to "deal" with me and "put me in my place". Not even those who, like in the cocktail party, don't really want to talk with me (deeeeeep inside).

Cav:

Tell them to follow my example... (you know, the way I deal with the strident messages of... you know who).

Granted, it requires a great deal of discipline, spiritual balance, and harmony with the universe, but it is a good exercise for the interior life.

Then, you'll all be able to return to normality and your old cozy discussions.

I, for my part, will continue with my quixotic adventures... here or elsewhere.

evolution in and of itself makes all your tedious presentations bogus. But you can't help it; you are so indoctrinated and opinionated you can't see your positions for what they are.

Then don't bother... (as you don't bother to present a real argument).

Do you know what an ad hominem punch is?

maliagar, my experience has shown me that 'truth' is a nebulous concept at best, especially when it comes to religion. Incidentally, hijacking a thread has nothing to do with anyone feeling they are 'forced' or 'compelled' to 'deal' with you...you inspire that all on your own. It simply means that you completely digress from the point, that is all. Nothing personal whatsoever.

still more answers to creation nonsense

I don't expect maliagar to check these sights out. He seems to think science and real facts are extraneous to the argument.

Now you think you are quixotic? Maliagar the lone voice crying in the wilderness is no longer 'in'.

Hummmm...I wonder if he means me???

Yep, I'm pretty sure he means me.

Nah...all it takes is a lot less spine than Cav has.

And not having enough pride to be embarrassed by a lack of spine.

You ought really to lecture us on that, Maliagar.

I for one would listen to whatever you say on that, because I suspect you really know that issue.

He's certainly pulled off an effective demonstration of what not to like about religion -- didactic diatribes designed to derail the debate. That's alliteration. As far as maliagar's self-esteem on his ability as an essayist, I'd say Hell for him would be to sit and re-read everything he's ever written. That's illiteration. (And, yes I know that's not a word -- before the picker starts going after the nits). When I spell checked this, maliagar came up and I hit the ignore button. That may be the only remedy here.

You were not digressing when you claimed that I supported my arguments on the Bible.

But I'm the one digressing when I ask you for your evidence.

Now, that's convenient.

So, I am a total atheist. I am generally creeped out by organized religion. For some reason (I don't know what yet), my sister bought Prince of the Desert (issat right - the disney animation about Moses?) and Silvi and I just watched it. I had no idea that it was a story from the bible. The story grated and I found that I had to explain things to Silvia and wasn't all that comfortable with it. I spun it as sort of a comparative religion class for a 4 year old.

Anyway, not quite on topic, but close.

Hey, Smartblythe!

Did you ever hear me defending creationism? Or you're just assuming that I must? For your information, this is not an issue for the One Church.

Never mind. It's cute to see to what extent "rationalists" are blinded by their own prejudices.

No matter how many times a fly flies around my head, I'm tempted to kill it. It has nothing to do with engaging the fly, because I'm impressed by it's persistence. c.i.

Especially when one has proven not capable of a real engagement.

My "real engagement" happened after I asked my girl friend to marry me. This answer reflects your level of answers to all the participants in this discussion. c.i.
