Rainsoft QRS - Changing filter media

We have a Rainsoft QRS, the whole house carbon filter. Had it for a number of years to help remove the odor from the cistern. Should I get the carbon filter media from Rainsoft or will another source work as well?

Is it possible to outfit the QRS with a backwash system?

I'm in Ontario, Canada.

I suggest a 1 cubic foot bag of coconut shell GAC or Centaur Catalytic carbon if needed.
You would be better served with a backwashing valve. I suggest the Fleck 5600 filter valve with a plastic by-pass.
Fleck makes the QRS in and out valve for RainSoft, the 5600 is a direct replacement, you can use your existing riser pipe and existing yoke.
