Does anyone remember Alec Guinness in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" (1979)TV-Series? These MI6 mysteries were riveting entertainment.
.
Other British series were "Brideshead revisited" and "Upstairs, Downstairs" and several others. PBS has "Foyle's War" these days.
.
The Brits have armies of talented actors and convince top novelists to write TV scripts. Are they better than American TV series? I am not talking about soap operas.
What about -
Callan
The Professionals
The Sweeney
and too many more to mention.
Little Britain
..thats British, right?
"Top Gear"is THE best boy show on TV.

Er, Im a laaaady and I love it, especially when they go on missions.Last night I was peeing myself when they showed the latest expedition to the North Pole!!!Brilliant.
Oh, I LOVED Moonlighting as well.
Damages
I watched the pilot show of "Damages" on cable FX channel and think it is a winner. Glenn Close's performance is even better than Meryl Streep's Prada performance.

I've recently got into "shameless" and haven't laughed so much in ages.
As far as old UK programmes are concerned, how about "boys from the blackstuff", "when the boat comes in", "only fools and horses", "the naked civil servant", "pennies from heaven" and "house of cards".
Here are two more British TV series that were first class all the way.
