I have a rainsoft system and have recently sold my house. The new owners do NOT want the system so I must take it with me. I called the Service guys and got a quote for $125 for the first half hour and $40 a half hour after that. Also they said it could take more than two hours to do. I personally think that is outrageous so I am asking for help. Is it easy enough to do by yourself or do I need a Professional?

Easy depends on what you have and how it's hooked up, but you should be able to remove it yourself.

Post or send me a picture so that I can better answer your question.

Although I'm not for taking a softener to another house...

You turn off your water ahead of/before the softener.

Remove the drain line from the control valve connection.

Open and close a faucet to relieve water pressure.

Put the softener's by pass valve in by pass; assuming you have a by pass valve that came with the softener.

Cut the plumbing to and from the by pass valve leaving the by pass valve on the softener.

Then plumb the two water lines back together so the house has water.

Then take the softener wherever but don't lay it down fully unless you absolutely have to. Laying it down at a shallow 8-10" angle is ok, more flat and you can get resin in the control valve that can clog it up.
