/sigh...
I have a small fridge (4 cubic foot or so) in my room, which has a freezer which needed (Umm.. untill now) defrosting pretty badly, but instead of doing it right I decided to try to chip the ice out with a small hammer and screwdriver... and I busted through the freon jacket. So, is the whole thing kaput or just the freezer? (Fridge & freezer do not have seperate doors.)
I definately will never try to chip ice out of a freezer again.
Bury it 'cause you killed it.
Be aware they're pretty cheaply purchased at most big box places like Sam's Club etc.
Incidentally, all you had to do to thaw it out (before) was put hot pans of water inside it after you shut it off and removed the contents. It would've thawed out nicely with little effort such as chipping, etc.
Gotta go with ragman on this. Eat all the ice cream now.
I don't need to go into the technical explanation of how the freon and the insulating layer works. The compressor will soon burn out if you event tried to use it as there is no coolant in it or cooling that will happen
Heh, m'bruddah did that years ago.
Get a new fridge, it's the only solution.
Hey, I did that too once years ago. Luckily I was thawing the thing to get rid of it.
I did it to a very olllllld refrig..but what we did was knock out the thermostat. ...such is life. Lesson learned, but at least the replacement is not that expensive.
