As is the problem with most basements, mine smells damp and musty. I have used a small fortune's worth of bleach and other cleaning products. Baking soda is just not enough to absorb the smell. Any suggestions that'll help until I can afford to solve the dampness issue (if that's possible at all)????
You need to ventilate with fresh air. How to do so is up to construction and economics.
Spread around some chemicals to remove the moist from the air. Should be relatively cheap.
Dad's right, just got to keep it ventilated. You can spread around chemicals, but eventually you'll just have to replace them. Plus some may prove toxic to pets.
<coming up the stairs from emptying the dehumidifier for the second time today>
get a dehumidifier
got a dehumidifier, got both windows open and another fan running all the time. Thanks for the info!! I guess I was hoping for a miracle product. Hey, there's an idea for any inventors out there!!
You don't really want the windows open while the dehumidifier's running. It sort of defeats the purpose - you'll end up trying to dehumidify the whole world.
The dehumidifier is basically an air conditioner - and you know to keep the windows closed while the air conditioner's running.
Beth's right. You're trying to dehumidify the world!
