Rainsoft Softener

I have two of the old Rainsoft Q2 valve softeners. In seperate houses.
Both have been working fine although I have not had them serviced recently.
The problem I have is that the capacity in gallons has jumped from 1000 to 4000!

This means that at 60% of the capacity, it now does not regenerate until 2400 gallons is used instead of the 600 gallons it worked on before.
It also puts far too much water in the brine tank (because it thinks it's a bigger unit??) and overflows for some time.

Both machines have done this at around the same time.
I have tried resetting it on one machine but it will not accept alterations.
The control panel is the green one and numbered, AD2536R, serial B295, date (looks like) Q04.

Has anyone any ideas please.

Unplug, remove battery, let sit for 10 minutes, reinstall battery, plug in and try to reprogram all data.

Post a picture with your reply if the above steps do not work.

I wouldn't undo all the programming by resetting a control valve until I knew what data to reenter.

For the changes you see, either someone or something has already changed the settings. So finding out what data it should be programed with should be a priority.

If the salt dose programming has not been changed, there is a problem with brining leaving water in the salt tank or a leak allowing water to flow into the salt tank when it shouldn't be.

Yes, I've tried this but no good. When I do it and turn back on the capacity in gallons is sometimes 3000 and sometimes 4000.

You may have a bad board... was there any lightning in the area immediately prior to the change?

Thanks for that. But I already have the manual.

The problem has appeared on both machines at about the same time. The one I use has been switched off and then back on with new data input but still I can't alter the gallons capacity. The other machine has not been touched in any way exept for the salt content when I refill it.

Thanks for the comments.

Both machines have changed at about the same time. My machine has been switched off and on. I had logged all the various settings when I first had it. Problem is that I can't alter the gallons capacity. When it is turned back on it sometimes registers 3000 gallons and sometimes 4000. It should be 1000 gallons!

When it regens it does not leave any water in the brine tank, it just puts too much water in at the start.

The other machine has not been altered in any way other than adding salt when required and changing the salt level.

I take that you have reentered all the original data, right? Check it and make sure you have it all correct, especially the salt dose in lbs..

Either the control valve does the math or you set the gallons by taking the K of capacity and dividing it by the gpg of hardness. I.E. 30000/15=2000 gallons but... they are telling you to reduce the K of capacity by a percentage, so do that first. Or call Hirt (the Rainsoft guy in Houston) is it, and ask them how to set it up.

Rolling Eyes You are obviously not very familiar with the RainSoft Q valve and why on earth would you recommend a RainSoft dealer to anyone for anything?

The Q uses resin tank capacity to automatically adjust salt usage.
You input the tanks capacity and the total pounds of salt available.
The computer does the rest.

Yeah that's what "... the control valve does the math...." means.

Why am I having to do your job here?

The key word you used was "either", this exposes your uncertainty and unfamiliarity with the RainSoft valve.

Does the valve keep the correct time?

If it does not, you may need to replace the clock motor.

The pointer that is attached to the wheel of six large numbered buttons
points to the 24 hour clock wheel half black - half white, sun and moon.
The tip of this pointer should point to the correct time of day.
There is a similar device on the clock wheel that has a small round window.
The regeneration time is displayed in this window.

The controls are not well made and not user friendly - a little confusing...
