When I turn my car on, there is a kind of a whine from the engine, if the a/c is NOT on, when i turn on the a/c the whining is gone. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bad bearing or clutch in the A/C compressor.

Or it could be a couple of loose ball joints in your scrotalytic converter.

Is that a difficult job?? I thought at first it was an alternator problem, maybe the serpentine belt, but than i noticed when i turned on the A/C it would stop the horrible noise. I am getting to the point where turning the radio up all the way doesn't help anymore. Thanks
