Thou Shalt Not Lie

PETERSBURG, Ky (Reuters) - Like many modern museums, the newest U.S. tourist attraction includes some awesome exhibits -- roaring dinosaurs and a life-sized ship.

But only at the Creation Museum in Kentucky do the dinosaurs sail on the ship -- Noah's Ark, to be precise.

The Christian creators of the sprawling museum, unveiled on Saturday, hope to draw as many as half a million people each year to their state-of-the-art project, which depicts the Bible's first book, Genesis, as literal truth.

While the $27 million museum near Cincinnati has drawn snickers from media and condemnation from U.S. scientists, those who believe God created the heavens and the Earth in six days about 6,000 years ago say their views are finally being represented.

"What we've done here is to give people an opportunity to hear information that is not readily available ... to challenge them that really you can believe the Bible's history," said Ken Ham, president of the group Answers in Genesis that founded the museum.

Here exhibits show the Grand Canyon took just days to form during Noah's flood, dinosaurs coexisted with humans and had a place on Noah's Ark, and Cain married his sister to people the earth, among other Biblical wonders.

Scientists, secularists and moderate Christians have pledged to protest the museum's public opening on Monday. An airplane trailing a "Thou Shalt Not Lie" banner buzzed overhead during the museum's opening news conference.

Opponents argue that children who see the exhibits will be confused when they learn in school that the universe is 14 billion years old rather than 6,000.

"Teachers don't deserve a student coming into class saying 'Gee Mrs. Brown, I went to this fancy museum and it said you're teaching me a lie,"' Dr. Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education, told reporters before the museum opened.

A Gallup poll last year showed almost half of Americans believe that humans did not evolve but were created by God in their present form within the last 10,000 years.

Three of 10 Republican presidential candidates said in a recent debate that they did not believe in evolution.

I read this.. must definitely be one of the tripped out stories of the day. I mean, damn.

(And what do they mean they want to "depict the Bible's first book, Genesis, as literal truth"? Did Genesis mention dinosaurs, on the Ark or off?)

Remember, these people think they are telling the Gospel Truth. Fred Flintstone mucked out Noah's Floating Stables.

People have always believed impossible things--you're all bent out of shape because they are now believing impossible things in public.

$27 million dollars. Is that all private funds? I wonder if any taxpayer dollars were used for this piece of ****.

No, no, no. I meant where might one stumble upon this story of arks and dinosaurs and such. Is that from some book or what? If so, they've really kept them hidden!

You know, I'd put something like that in hotel rooms!! Like maybe in every hotel room in the world!!!!

And book stores!!!

And I'd have people go door to door with them!!!

There really are ways to make information readily available, you know.

Television!!

OMG. The internet!!!!

One of the things I liked about the hotel I stayed at when a2kers got together in San Francisco a few years ago - besides the great snacks in the refrigerator in my room, the view, the free computers in the lobby, the closeness to everywhere I wanted to walk, the low price for the room as part of an airfare/hotel package - was that my room did not have a bible tucked away. That might be a first.

I found a Bible in my room, the time I stayed at the MGM Grand. "I don't have one," I said to myself. Despite my son-in-law's protestations, I packed it in my luggage.

DINOSAURS on an ARK?

Where does this craziness begin....and where will it end?

"Opponents argue that children who see the exhibits will be confused when they learn in school that the universe is 14 billion years old rather than 6,000."

I certainly hope they WILL be confused!!! And that confusion will open their minds and let in understanding of the ridiculous stuff that religious nuts are cramming their heads with.

I kept it hidden from my son-in-law, once I had it. He seemed to think I was doing something wrong, when, in fact, I was helping them disseminate more Bibles.

comedian bill hicks did a brief routine on how we celebrate easter and followed it up with this rant

Do you all have different books in the Bible than I do? Are you all Gideons? Who are the f**king Gideons? Ever met one, no! Ever seen one, no! But they're all over the f**king world, putting Bibles in hotel rooms! Every one of them: "This Bible was placed here by a Gideon." When? I've been here all day and I ain't seen ****! I saw the housekeeper come and go, I saw the minibar guy come and go, I've never laid eyes on a f**king Gideon! What are they, ninjas? Where are they? Where are they from? Gidea? Who the f**k are these people?!

I'm gonna capture a Gideon. Yeah, I'm gonna make that my hobby. I'll call up the front desk one day and say, "Uh, I don't seem to have a Bible in my room."
