I don't know that much about the character, but is he supposed to be this generation's answer to Andy Kaufman?
Hmmm, I dont think so.
Sacha Baron Cohan that plays Borat plays other characters too.
I think Andy Kauffman didnt really vary his character and had a unique sense of humour, admittedly Im too young to remember Kaufman, I only saw the end of Taxi in the mid 80's but going on the Jim Carey film he was a one off(except that fabulous lounge singer he did, Tony someone).
I don't know but even my husband thought it was a waste of time.
Except for a few key parts where he said he was laughing so hard he almost fell over.
One of the funniest comedians. Waste of time if you don't worship the Jew warrior Mel Gibsons.
Borat is too vulgar-I don't think it's funny to see someone splash toilet water on his face-I'm wondering of that was a real toilet.
sometimes vulgarity has a purpose. Sacha Baron Cohen himself is apparently an educated well-mannered person. I think his humor is meant to show us the ugly and prejudiced in us and learn about ourselves through laughing at ourselves.
I'm not a tremendous fan, but I like Borat OK.
I'm a Christian-I'd like to see a Christian comedian make a film.

I like Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ- I hope they make more Gospel films like that.
I respect Gibson- I don't worship him.
Borat is a very funny movie. I think the part where he brings the bag of poo to the dinner table is hilarious.
Kickycan-that's what I'm talking about. I don't think bathroom humor is funny. Or jokes about pubic hair or incest.
You should rent the movies Jackass and Jackass II then. You'll love them.
No, seriously, don't do that.
I'm curious: what was the last thing that made you really laugh? I mean REALLY laugh, like until your face hurt.
Does anyone here remember Andy Kaufman?
BTW, I hate Borat.

I watched a lot of Andy Kaufman in the late 1970's. Around that time "punk rock" was becoming popular. To me it seemed that Kaufman had transferred the "punk" style to stand-up comedy. Kaufman and punk musicians tried to irritate their audiences and see how much they could get away with.
Borat is Kazistani, right? Didn't the Kazistanis protest the movie for the way they were portrayed in the movie?
Hey, JGoldman, why didn't you answer my question?

I thought Borat was cheap slap-stick. Sorry, I am not that easily entertained.
I did see the movie about Andy Kaufman, and Andy wasn't that funny either. He actually turned around and made fun of his audience with his twisted sense of humor.
