water softener brine tank fills with water, drips at drain

Hello, I have a EcoWater Systems Series 3000 softener which when looking for parts (and reading posts here) I learned is a model also sold at Sears and other places. The drain has a constant drip which has become steady enought to cause concern. The other problem is the brine tank is now 1/2 full of water. In researching this I found the Venturi assemble to be very dirty and the rubber gasket at the bottom was torn. This may explain part of the problem, but while I was working on the Venturi, water kept filling the cup. Is this normal? What would cause the constant dripping at the drain and the slight flow in the venturi when in service (non regen) mode??? Thanks

What does your local EcoWater dealer say about the problem?

Oh, I see how it is, H20MAN. Now you're going to tease them before you give them the answers. Dangle the carrot. You're a cold son of a bitch.

But then.... you knew that.

water softener brine tank fills with water
Hello,
The unit is over 10 years old and everything except the tank is out of warranty. I know the Eco people would charge just to look at it and from my experience, repairs which involve taking the unit apart and replacing parts is expensive. I purchase my chems and new equipment from them and have them replace the materials in the tank when needed (we also have a carbon filter). I try to fix as many mechanical items as I can to save money. Washers/Dryer/Cars... So do I pass the test?? I read posts indicating the need to replace inlet and/or outlet end seals and disks and some other parts. I was hoping to learn if the disks themselves wear or just the seals so I can order up all the parts prior to opening up the unit. By cleaning the venturi I was able to get a good regen so we are back to softer water until I open things up.

Also do you recommend pumping out the extra brine or after the repair, running the motor advance manually to the brining stage and hold it there until it is all drawn down?
Thanks

Update----

Thanks for the idea, I called my local EcoSystems dealer. I was not aware that they stocked and sold parts. They suggested I replace the disks and seals as well as the venturi gasket. I would still appreciate any tid-bits of info you have. I have been very happy with this model and hope to get a number of additional years from it.

Thanks

Smile I'm glad it worked out for you.

EcoWater does a excellent job supporting existing equipment/clients.
I suggest that you ask your local dealer if there is any preventative maintenance that you can perform
or have them perform that will keep your particular system up and running for many years to come.
Upgrades may also be available for your older control valve - it does not hurt to ask.

pyramidstaff, no you shouldn't have water running to the brine tank in the service position UNLESS the air check float in the brine tank sets the salt dose. IOWs, if there is not a separate brine valve in/on the control valve you would have water flowing (under full line pressure) if you disconnect the brine line. Clack and Fleck controls have a brine valve in/on the control and water only flows when needed; in brine refill and brine draw. That torn gasket, if a disc gasket may not be the cause of the leak. That would be the seal where the air check is, usually under the float in the brine tank.

Go here, http://www.kenmorewater.com and look up the troubleshooting section. Your Ecowater softener is not much different than a Kenmore, GE, Whirlpool, North Star or mortonsalt.com softener. You may see the same parts. You may buy them at less cost from SEARS etc. than the local Ecowater dealer. The next time you need new equipment, I suggest looking at much less expensive and non-proprietary equipment. That gives you many local and online dealers to buy equipment and parts from and at the lowest prices due to the competition for your business.

I have worked with hydrotek and other machines with CAT pumps, they use a hand held, reverse osmosis water filter.

@john2212,
Hi all,
I just have to thank all of you; I had issues with my Ecosystem softener not pulling the brine up. And by going to the Kenmore site posted on this page, I sovled my issue (I hope) in a few minutes. The gasket in my venturi valve is SHOT! I did take the valve apart yesterday, but obviously I didn't take it apart enough (break it down). So, off to Sears to get a gasket that will cost a couple of dollars, instead of buying a new system. You all rock!

Thanks so much,
-Leann (a new reader and poster)
