A Man is found dead in a cabin on a mountainside. How did he die?

A man walks into a bar. He asks the bartender for a glass of water.
The bartender reaches under the bar, pulls out a pistol and points it at the man. What happened?

Joe is in the water about 20 feet from the end of the dock and is drowning.
Help! help! Pete can't swim, but there's a piece of rope about 15 feet long on the dock. How does Pete save joe?

Brothers and sisters I have none, but that man's father is my father's son.

As it stands, I don't believe "himself" is the answer. There is no clear person to be identified. If there are three parties (a speaker, a questioner, and a third man to be identified), then the questioner would point to the third man and ask "Who is that man?" and the answer given by the speaker would be "Brothers and sisters I have none, but that man's father is my father's son." "that man" would clearly be the speaker's son.

However, if the riddle reads "Brothers and sisters I have none, but this man's father is my father's son. WHO AM I?" Then the speaker is clearly identifying himself.

I'm going to lunch. Maybe "I'm out to lunch."

Let's add a little to the riddle.

What is: 1. more powerful than God 2. more evil than the Devil 3. The rich
need it 4. The poor have it 5. and if you eat it, you will die?

Thanks, Billy. I couldn't remember the rest of it when I was typing it the other day. You're right, that's how I heard it too.

I'm pondering yours. That first one doesn't seem to contain enough information. The second one is intriguing. The third is easy.

Ok, Billy. I think the answer to your pistol riddle is:

The pistol was a water pistol, and the man got water on his glasses rather than a glass of water, right?

Soze, put the sozelet on your lap in front of your pc and let her type the answer to Andrew's riddle, ok? Smile

I'm not entirely *hic* sure that this is the answer Billy *hic* was looking for...

Also, if you think about it in the right way, the answer to his first riddle should be very plane.

Good point, Letty. But if he crashed into a mountainside, then the 'how' is sort of implicit.

That and the goldfish riddle have to be the most famous lateral thinking puzzles of all time.

Along with the ones based on ice and a puddle.

Craven, Is the "ice and puddle" riddle the one about the man who was found hanging from the rafters?

Well, it's probably too easy, but I'll do it anyway:

A man is found dead hanging from a rafter, the noose tightened around his neck. Investigation determines that it's a suicide, but no one can ascertain how he accomplished such a thing because the room is totally devoid of furniture, etc. The only thing that is odd, is a large puddle of water. How did he accomplish the task?
