Hi, new here and looking for a little help. My wife and I just moved into a newer home in the country on well water. It already had a softener that seemed needed a little "tweaking" We have never had a softener, and recently had a peroxide/iron filter system installed. In doing so, the installers played with the softener, and I am getting quite frustrated attempting to get it back to somewhat normal. I haven't had the water tested

. I'm having trouble with the basics of hardness/ grains etc. We have an EcoWater #ECR3002R40 (Canadian) and the "set hardness" function is confusing me. (doesn't take much obviously) If I raise the grains (eg 45 up to 50) am I adding more salt and softening more, or am I increasing the hardness. Is it a backwards scale that I need a smaller number of grains for softer water.
Any help would be appreciated, this looks like a great site
